"Nice...nice to meet you, Sombra," said Luzia, her cracked lips and chapped mouth speaking the words barely audibly. She closed her eyes, not knowing if she would ever wake again, but feeling more satisfied that now they knew each other's names. She would die happy now.
Only she woke up again, some time later, she couldn't tell how much time had gone by. It was daylight, and she realised it seemed earlier than it had when she'd gone to sleep.
"Whoa...the lil sleeper's up!" said Chunga. "Ya slept almost a whole day, kiddo."

"I imagine you didn't get much sleep in the fortress, did you?" commented Sombra.

"In the Fortress...I had given up on living," said Luzia. She felt stronger now than she had in many days. She looked no fatter, but it would take many days for her to recover her lost weight. "I had surrendered to dying in my cell." She was able to roll onto her stomach and remain there. "Thank you...thank you so much for saving me. Sombra."
She felt hungry again but didn't want to ask for food. However, she didn't have to. Chunga dropped two pecha berries by her front feet.
"Eat those," he instructed. "Nice'n juicy and sweet."

"I will stay with you for as long as you need me," said Sombra.

"Thank you." Luzia feared that once she had recovered, if she did, he wouldlose interest in her. That she was only appealing because of her helplessness and the fact that she needed such care.

"Don't mention it," replied Sombra.

Luzia finished eating the berries and felt fuller, though still a little hungry. She was wary of eating anything else for now, though. "I...it was my own stupidity that landed me in that cell. I don't deserve this."

"No, it was the horde," replied Sombra, "They had no right to keep you locked up."

"I was born into the Horde," said Luzia. "My mother was taken prisoner while she was pregnant with me and my two brothers. We were trained as killers in the Horde....evolved young...we all had to prove ourselves because of who our mother was--a slave prisoner." She paused just to gather more strength to speak, although she felt a lot stronger than she had before. "Both my brothers are still in the Horde, but I didn't do as well in training. I realised--well, that I wasn't going to be anybody. I just didn't have it in me. I began to wonder about life outside the horde, and came to feel that my mother didn't deserve being imprisoned, like everyone had always told me. So--I tried to break her out."
Luzia gulped to wet her mouth. "I didn't get far. They caught us together down in the dungeons and didn't hesitate. They threw me into another cell, far away from her. I was told she died. I don't know whether this was true or if they just said it to torment me."

"You're mother is still alive," said Sombra, "Had she really died, they wouldn't tell you."

Luzia sighed. "You don't know the Horde. They'd tell me just to see how badly it made me hurt. Since all I wanted was for her to be free...I only made things worse. And if she wasn't dead then, she would be now."

"I'm sorry," replied Sombra, "But you don't know that for certain."

"No...you're right. I don't," said Luzia. "My mother...was forced to have litter after litter by males she hated...whichever males felt like having her, and agreed with each other that they would let whoever mate with her next. But my mother had no choice."

"That's terrible," replied Sombra, "But I will fight with every fiber in my being to eviscerate the horde from existence."

"The Horde has probably hundreds, maybe even thousands, of pokemon," said Luzia. "How are you going to do this? I don't want you getting killed. That was very brave of you...to rescue us...but you could have been killed. It was probably only by virtue of the aruseus that you weren't."

"Death doesn't matter to me," replied Sombra, "It doesn't matter how long you live. It matters how you lived."

"Don't say that...don't say it that way, at least," said Luzia. "Your death matters to me. I don't want it to happen. I want you to stay here."

"Don't worry," replied Sombra, "I'm not about to die, but if I have to, I will."

"Please say you care more about life than that," said Luzia. For if life mattered that little to him, then so did she. But then, what was she? She was just a burden, a sickly ugly emaciated thing who had never done a thing for him.

"I have nothing," replied Sombra, "I have no family, no home, nothing. I've got nothing to live for. I might as well put myself to good use."

"You have me," said Luzia, after a long, pregnant pause. "I care about you. You saved my life. Please say you care. Please say life is something you want to live, badly."

"I once had a home," replied Sombra, "I once had a family. But now it's all gone. I have nothing. I can't even have a child now. I might as well make myself useful."

"Why can't...why can't you have a child?" Luzia thought that was awful. Sombra seemed healthy to her, so why not? And she dreamed of having a litter with him...though they'd only just met and she was currently in no condition to have kits. But she knew now that she was on the mend. She would fill back out, become sleek and healthy again, and then kits were going to be on her mind. And she knew which male she wanted them by.

"In order to complete a certain... task, I had to promise to the unown that my first child would be adopted by them as a servant," replied Sombra. His voice was heavy with guilt and regret. He never thought he would want to have children.

"That...that's awful," said Luzia. "But you can't let them rule your life like that. Isn't there a way to get away from them so they can't find you?" She gulped, then forced herself to speak again, trying to quell the rise of nervousness in her stomach. "I'd go anywhere with you."

"I don't know if there is anywhere," replied Sombra before pondering for a moment, "The far reaches! The unown said their power does not extend to the far reaches! I could have children there!"

"...the what?" said Luzia, drawing herself up shakily to a sitting position. She was hungry again. "I--I've never even heard of the Far Reaches. Are you sure it's a real place?"

"An acquaintance of mine once lived there," replied Sombra, "We shall go to Charna and discover a way of transportation to the far reaches."

"Who's Charna? Where...where would she be?" Luzia was feeling a little dizzy so she got back down to her belly on the ground. "I'm so hungry..."

"You are?" replied Sombra, "In that case, eat. When you're feeling strong again, we'll head over to her."
