"I hope you get eaten alive!" yelled Volt as he watched Rappella dash into impending doom.
"Still your tongue, Volt," replied Sombra.
"I thought you hated her," replied Volt.
Sombra sighed, "True, she's irritating, but she's my daughter and I love her."

"Rappella? Rappella!" Luzia called out into the deepening dark. Twilight was dying, and fireflies filled the air with their yellow flashes. Luzia saw her kit nowhere.

Aqua walked over to Sombra, "Daddy, where did Rappella go?"
"I wish I knew," replied Sombra.
"Should we go look for her?" asked Aqua.
"I can't leave Flare alone here," replied Sombra, "Plus, I'm not about to take you two out at night. You alone have almost died twice already."
"But, but... Rappella..." replied Aqua with tears in her eyes.

Luzia returned some time later. The espeon was in tears. "I couldn't find her. Sombra, she's out there, lost somewhere...I've got to do something, we've got to do something before something kills her out there!"

"Luzia, I'm sorry, but we can't possibly take that risk," replied Sombra, "Flare is in critical condition. We can't leave Volt, Aqua, and Aeroth here alone, nor can we take them with us into the dark. Yes, Rappella needs us, but so do our other children."

"What can we do for Flare other than wait for him to wake up?" said Luzia. "Someone has to stay here, yes." She paced the floor, "someone has to stay but what if she doesn't come back?"

Luzia's voice softened and she looked at Sombra sadly. "You don't like her, do you?"

"She's...difficult, but it's our job as parents to guide her," said Luzia. "Kits will test our limits. You can't say such horrible things about someone who's only a baby."

Sombra was about to speak, but was interrupted.
"Ow! OW! My legth!" cried Flare.

"FLARE!" Luzia rushed to her son's side. She licked his face. "You're awake."

Luzia licked his face some more before drawing back to speak to him. "It's okay Flare...we're going to help you heal. You'll need to lie down and rest for a long time, before your legs get better, okay?" She knew...from the look of them, that they were broken, and nothing would make them the way they had been before. He was crippled for life.

The pain of a broken bone, let alone four broken bones, was too overwhelmingly agonizing for Flare to handle. He moaned in pain, "Momma, make it thtop hurting! Pleathe!"

"Honey are there any berries we can give him or herbs, for the pain?" said Luzia. "We can't let him just lie there in so much pain and I don't know anything about berries and herbs."

"Pleathe, Poppa! Make it thtop!" said Flare.

Flare clenched his teeth, "Why do my leth hurt tho much?"
"I wonder if those large berries have any healing properties," suggested Sombra.

"Your legs are broken, honey," said Luzia. "That's why. You just have to wait for them to heal." she also noticed they were becoming hugely swollen.

By this time, the sun began to rise. Sombra had just departed. A few minutes later, he returned with another gungo berry. Sombra proceeded to break it open with a shadow ball. He then grabbed a pawful of berry and presented it to Flare, "Put it in your mouth."
Flare licked the berry meat from Sombra's paw.
"Now, try to mash it up in your mouth and swallow," continued Sombra.
Having never eaten a solid before, Flare had trouble chewing. Fortunately, the berry was soft enough for him to swallow. he did so with a gulp.
"How do you feel?" asked Sombra.
"My legth. I can'd feel them. They don'd hurd!" replied Flare.

Aeroth just lay there and took Jolt's insults. He was right, despite his mother attempting to defend him. And now, because Rapella had tried to defend him, she was now in danger because she left the safety of the den and was no nowhere to be found. He could bear the insults, bear the truth, but he couldn't bear the responisbility of another injury without attempting to remedy it.
Aeroth knew it was foolhearty, knew it was dangerous, but he would rather die himself than see his sister hurt. His mother was too distressed worrying about Flare to notice him as he slowly stood and walked to the edge of the den, hugging the walls all the way. He moved slowly, he moved quietly, he moved stealthily, to where the moon shone upon him once again. Aeroth looked to the sky one more. The moon was conciderably lower in the sky than when he last viewed it, but that didn't mean it was almost morning. Far from it.
With a last forlorn glance at his mother and father, before turning tail and running through the forest to find his sister.
(Shall we say this was before your post Omega?)
