"Right," said Luzia, "now why would anyone want to bother to go on such a journey in the first place? I wouldn't...well not usually. Besides why would they want to go south if they have all they need up here?"

"You never know," replied Sombra.

Luzia sighed. Her efforts to settle this were going nowhere. "What should we do, then? What do you propose we do? You wanted to come here to avoid the unouns, now you're saying our kits will never be happy here? What makes Erymire so irresistable as a place to live as opposed to here? if you want my opinion, Erymire is full of danger. I lived in hell in Erymire."

"You grew up in the fortress," replied Sombra.

"That's right, I did," said Luzia. "And anyone in Erymire has a chance to be taken prisoner and thrown into that horrible place...not something I'd wish on our babies, or anyone I know for that matter."

Aeroth, the young black-tipped Eevee pup, was having a rough night. He slept, like all creatures had to, but he awoke every hour or so, sometimes for no reason but to mewl for attention, othertimes because there was a hole in his belly the size of a guardian tree. At these times he would suckle on his mother's life-giving milk before squealing and returning to sleep.
When the morning came Aetoh woke to the sound of voices and suckled for a minute before trying to get up and wander. Audaciously putting his feet under him, he made one step before his strength gave out and he fell flat on the ground. He wasn't hurt though, in fact his tiny tail was wagging a mile a minute as he used his nose to scent his surroundings before anxiously getting up and trying to walk again. Where he was going he knew not, there was not a conscious thought in the young Eevee's head, just that it was hard for him to sit still.
(Who's controlling the other Eevees?)

ooc: I'm controlling one of them.
ic: Rappella felt her brother tossing and turning. She nursed for a little while, only several minutes at a time was the longest she ever fed. She fell bak to sleep shortly after.

Flare, Volt, and Aqua woke and began to feed from Luzia.

Luzia lay stretched out on her side with all five kits nursing. It was a strange yet satisfying feeling as they drained the milk from her.

Sombra grinned as he watched his new litter. He knew it was the beginning of a beautiful family.

Luzia felt stronger today, stronger and more ready to get out of the den for a little bit. "After the kits are asleep...I think I'm going out to take a little walk or something, just stretch my legs."

"I'll watch the kits," said Sombra.

"Thanks," said Luzia. When the kits had finished and settled down, she got carefully up from around them, not wanting to disturb the fuzzy brown pile of baby eevees. She sat up and looked down at their little breathing bodies. "So precious."

Aqua woke from the pile and walked up to Luzia. She began to nuzzle her leg.

"You--you're walking!" Luzia watched her little eevee daughter toddle towards her on those little baby legs. "My baby, you're getting so big now!"

Aqua didn't know what Luzia was saying, but the words of her mother comforted her. She looked up with a smile and let out a cute yip as her tail began to wag.

Rappella looked at her sister, then up at her mother, then back at her sister. She sat down too, and wagged her fluffy little tail too.
"Aww you're so cute, I just can't stand it, my beautiful babies," said Luzia.
"Vee. Eevee," said Rappella.

Flare and Volt awoke and joined their sisters. They all stood at their mother's feet. They seemed to be aware of her departure and wished to follow her.
"Luzia, I think they want to come with you," said Sombra, "Perhaps we could all go for a walk?"

"I didn't think they were old enough to really walk yet," said Luzia, watching them. They were all standing, not very steadily. They could not walk with any certainty yet, more like they would get up, toddle a few steps then collapse into a sitting or lying position.

"I could carry them on my back," suggested Sombra. Sombra, weighing approximately 60 pounds had no problem carrying five newborn eevees, each of which weighed barely 5 pounds.

"It's too soon," said Luzia. "They haven't even explored the den yet, Sombra. They're only days old. and if a predator suddenly attacks or something they could just snatch one and run off." Luzia was tied strongly to the instinct that kits should not leave the den until they could run.

"But they're still too young to even walk more than a few steps," said Luzia. "I'm just too nervous...too nervous to let them leave."

Luzia nuzzled her mate. ''Thank you.'' She turned to the entranceway and headed swiftly off. She felt like hunting.

Aqua attempted to follow her, however, she stumbled and landed on the ground. The shock of the fall caused Aqua to cry.
Just as Sombra exited to retrieve her, a pidgeot swooped down and grabbed her.
"Vwee! Vwee!" cried Aqua as the pidgeot grasped her in his unforgiving talons.
Sombra reacted quickly and fired a shadow ball at the pidgeot.
The pidgeot was hit directly in the back and dropped Aqua.
"Aqua!" cried Sombra ass he rushed to catch his falling child.

Luzia whirled around after it had all happened, it happened THAT fast. "AQUA!" She rushed to her fallen daughter. "I should never have left! Oh, Aqua!"
Rappella got up to see what the commotion was about. The tiny tawny coloured kit toddled out towards her parents. "Vee?"
"Get back in the den!" cried Luzia, terrified that another predator would swoop in and grab her.

Sombra leaped forward and caught Aqua on his back before rushing to the den. "Is everyone here?" he asked frantically.

"Aqua!" called Luzia desperately to her hurt daughter. "Sombra, she's not answering!"

Sombra put his ear to Aqua, "She has a pulse and she's breathing. She must be petrified because of her attack."
