Luzia lay her head down on the den floor. She breathed in the smells--of her kits, of the wood roots that made up the ceiling and walls of their home, of the bedding and of her mate. "Yes," was all she had the energy to say. She soon went to sleep while the kits still suckled away.

After the new litter had their fill, they all curled up and went to sleep. Sombra soon followed as the sun set.

Rappella woke up first the next morning and had her morning suckle.
Luzia awoke when she felt the mouth of her kit having her first breakfast. It was a little uncomfortable, those little mouths sure pulled hard sometimes. "Good morning."

Sombra was already awake. He rolled another gungo berry into the cave-like structure they called home. "Breakfast!"

Luzia was sore all over, especially in her nether regions, from the birth of five kits. "Oh...thank you Sombra. So much. I just love those fruits." she didn't want to get up to go eat yet, since she would disturb her nursing kits if she did.

"Hold on," said Sombra before breaking rolling it closer to Luzia and breaking it open with an iron tail, "There you go. Soon enough, our litter will be able to eat these, too."

Luzia munched on the soft pulpy fruit. "Thanks. We can't just eat these fruits, though...we need meat."

Sombra nodded before dashing off. A bit later, he returned with two dead rattata. "This should last us," he said.

"Wonderful," said Luzia. "Thank you so much."

"No problem," replied Sombra, "It's for the good of the children. Your milk gets nutrients from your food."

"Yes...they do," said Luzia. "I'm still a little on the thin side so I hope I can produce enough milk."

"If we get enough food into you," replied Sombra.

"It takes a long time to put on tht much weight again after all I lost," said Luzia. "I was at the point where I couldn't lose any more weight at all." She started eating the rattata, she was hungry for meat.

"You look healthy to me," replied Sombra.

"I feel so beat," said Luzia. "Just...sore, all over. And I'm healthy now but I was a little fatter before I was imprisoned. Not much difference though I guess."

"You'll be fine," said Sombra, "The fact that you're producing milk is good."

"It's a good thing I'm producing milk," said Luzia. "if I weren't--our kits would probably be dead by now. Or dying."

"No, our kits will be fine," replied Sombra, "But I worry for Flare. He is my firstborn. The unown will be hunting for him."

"The unowns might even want all of them." Luzia looked down at her babies. Rappella had finished suckling and gone to sleep. "They were all born at about the same time."

"Flare was my first," replied Sombra, "Nevertheless, we must prevent them from taking our children. I will put my life on the line to defend our litter."

"They haven't done anything to us yet," said Luzia. "As long as we don't ever return, or as long as our children don't, we should all be fine. I hope."

"Our children must never know of Erymire," said Sombra, "For if they venture south, there's no telling what could happen."

"We never have to tell them where we came from, only that it was a bad place," said Luzia, agreeing. "They were born here, so it doesn't pertain to their history at all."

"I suppose..." replied Sombra with much disdain.

"Well? You don't sound too happy about it. The kits have some right to learn eventually what went on before they were born. But if they ask, we can just say it was somewhere near here that we came from, and when they're a lot older and able to take care of themselves, we can tell them more if they ask. Really, they won't have any reason to think we're not from the Far Reaches."

"That's true," said Sombra, "But our litter should have freedom. We shouldn't have to hide like rattata from a pidgeot!"

"This seems like a large land to me," said Luzia. "I don't see why our kits would feel like prisoners up here. They can pretty much go wherever they want once they get old enough."

"Not Erymire," replied Sombra, "I fear you nor I may return either."

"I don't know if you realise how far away from Erymire we must be here," said Luzia. "Just the look of this whole place, tells me we are probably so far from erymire that our children might not be able to walk there in their whole lifetimes."

"Charna said it would take half a year," replied Sombra.
