Lumina thought hard. "I can't be entirely certain because I'm getting this from a bedtime story I was only told once. I was told that if you swim up as far as you can, you will eventually reach the surface, which is where the water stops. Above the water is a huge empty space called air where these things called bird pokemon and other flyers can be seen flying. Flying is kinda like this." She flapped the fins on the sides of her head up and down as fast as she could.
"If you can fly, you can go anywhere, over land or ocean. I'd like to see land someday. My parents said that it is kinda like a pile of dirt and rocks with plants growing on it, but bigger than I could imagine."
She looked at Gads curiously, thankful to know a little more about his kind. "Two evolution, huh? I wish I could've known what your parents were like."
She noticed that it was starting to get dark. "Guess we need to find somewhere to stop for the night. Besides I'm getting a little hungry myself." She eyed the vegetation around her.

"So it's movement out of the water? How are you supposed to breathe? " Gads was amazed at the very thought. A feat like that seemed completely impossible to him. He looked up at the light from the surface of the water. He rarely ever took a moment to do so before, but he felt safe enough to do so right now. The fine membrane between his known world and the unknown shimmered and rippled mysteriously with sunlight.
His attention turned to his belly, "So what kind of stuff do you eat ? I like little things that squirm and sparkle in the night. " He looked around for a moment, "I do most of my eating and stuff at night. Maybe, we could travel more safely when it's dark too." He suggested. If she was worried about how shiny she was in the day light, it would only make sense.

(I'm guessing at the dratini stage Lumina has gills but I'm not sure. Makes sense considering how rarely they are seen.)
"I'm not sure how they breathe, but I guess some of them wonder how we can breathe underwater. How about you give me about two hours to eat and sleep, and we'll continue our journey. I'm tired."
"I'm like to eat plants. Some of my kind also eat krabby and corphish, but I don't."
She looked up at the sky. "Hope there's not a full moon tonight."

"Sure, that sounds alright." Gads settled himself on the sea bed, "I'm glad you don't eat things like me." He smiled at her. "I'll rest with you. It's been a long scary day." The pot-bellied horsea tangled vegetation in his tail. "Wake me up if I fall asleep, okay?"

"Pssst.... Gads, it's time to go. You awake?" She lightly shook the hosea hybrid.
Thankfully, it was a dark night but not so dark that their eyes couldn't adjust. A first quarter moon hung in the sky slightly lighting the area. It was so quiet that none dared speak above a whisper for fear of breaking the silence. The vegetation on the ocean floor slowly waved back and forth. Much closer now the small beacon of light twinkled every once in a while as if inviting them to come closer.

Gads gave a startled whoosh through his gills. "Oh gosh, Lumina!" he gulped the words down along with water to catch his breath, "Oh fins! I just about forgot I was with you!" He laughed sheepishly, " Are you feeling rested now?"

Lumina smiled understandingly. "I know. It takes some getting used to. I'm feeling more rested and ready to keep going. Did you get anything to eat?"
She sighed, feeling much more relaxed in the dark and stillness of the night. Nighttime was the only time that she felt free of constant staring eyes. Of course, she knew that there was still the danger of predator, particularly those with keen senses of smell, but she was confidant that they couldn't get too close without her smelling them too.
"How much farther do you think we need to go, Gads?" She asked, gazing at the path before them as if it would never end. She twirled in the the water, relishing the cool feel of the water against her scales.

"I haven't eaten yet, no, but I can grab things along the way. My favorite food comes out at night. If you see any small glowing wrigglies, let me know." Gads swayed with the ocean current, the fluttered his fins to propel himself forward. "I don't know how far we'll have to search to find Crys, or how far we are supposed to go traveling at all. "
The horsea turned his body so he could get a full view of their surroundings, "Maybe we should find some friendly pokemon and ask if they've seen a little feebas around."

"Sure but who are we going to talk to at night? Those star-shaped things? What kinds of pokemon come out at night around here?" Lumina looked hopefully around their surroundings, thinking about how convenient it would be it someone popped out right now and said hi.
After a minute or so, she turned back to Gads, waiting for his answer.

"From what I remember, those star-shaped ones are okay to talk to... and pink ones that are round with branchy bits all over." Gads thought hard back to his youngest fry days when he was not yet afraid of what others said and of being eaten.
"I spent most of my time in that cavern... I didn't see too many others too often. " Gads moved along and spotted a little wriggle of light drifting in the current. He moved without shifting the water around him, focused, then... THUP! The light dissapeared, snuffed between Gads' long muzzle shaped lips. "Mmm. Tastey."

"Those star things talk?" Lumina asked as she swam up out of the vegetation. She turned her head back and forth, trying to spot the glint from the jewel on a staryu or starmie. On the surface of the water, some staryu floated with their jewels flickering toward the stars, but Lumina decided not to bother them. Under them, however, was a lone staryu that she started to swim to, motioning with her tail for Gads to follow.
"How do you tell if its awake or asleep?" she muttered to him under her breath as they got close enough to see that it had no face. Stopping a safe distance of eight feet away from the pokemon. With a slightly quivering voice, she shyly said, "E-excuse me. I hate to bother you but we're looking for someone and were hoping that you'd seen h-her. M-my name is Lumina and this is Gads." Her face turned slightly pink with embarrassment, and felt like this hadn't been such a good idea after all. "What am I doing?" she thought to herself. "I can't believe I've so easily forgotten that I have almost zero experience talking with other pokemon. I guess meeting Gads has given me courage that I never knew I had." She smiled slightly at the last thought.

"I think they can. All pokemon do, don't they?" Gads fluttered and bobbed in the water surrounding his dratini companion. He marveled at the very structured shape of the pokemon they were attempting to converse with. He scooted up, pushing his body until he was level with Luminia's head. "Hello, sirs... er, madams, uh... ladies and gentlefish?" he greeted them very timidly.
There seemed to be nothing happening, nothing said from the multi-pointed pokemon. Gads moved his long muzzled slightly towards the dratini "Psst. Do ya think we're talking to the right side of them? Maybe they're not answering us 'cuz we're talking to their backsides?" He kept his voice low, just in case the creatures -could- hear them.

"How should I know? I can't even tell if their asleep...." Her face reddened even more in frustration. "I used to see these pokemon a lot at night, but they never spoke to me nor I to them. Maybe they don't talk the same way we do..." she whispered back to him. She slowly inched up to the staryu and gently touched it with her tail. Feeling it start to move, she jumped back, hiding behind Gads. Its jewel began flashing various different colors, and at one point, Lumina could have sworn that she saw it stretch.
"I didn't make it mad, did I?" She asked, her voice tight with fear. Meanwhile, the staryu slowly floated toward them, the jewel still flashing all of the colors of the rainbow.

"Woah!" Gads flinched back from the flashing lights, then pulled forwards again, "So pretty." he murmured. The swirling light was mesmerizing.
"Sorry to disturb you. " He tried to communicate to the flashing pokemon, "If you can understand us at all, we just want to ask if you've seen a friend of mine." Gads hoped it did understand them, and that it would be able to communicate well enough with them if it had seen Crys.

"Gads, you forgot to say what her name is," Lumina whispered, inching out from behind him again. She had recovered somewhat from the fright the pokemon had given her. Moving at a greater speed than she would've ever thought for such a strange pokemon, the staryu starting twirling around them, its flashing jewel diminished to a twinkle.
"I wonder what it's doing.... Is it trying to communicate some how? If it is I can't understand it," she muttered to Gads. At any other time, she might of said that the pokemon was dancing or something.

"Oh! Uh, right, sorry." Gads hiccuped, then mumbled the phrase. He took a breath to clear his embarrassed thoughts, then spoke as clear as he could, "My friend's name is Crys. She's a feebas, a bit smaller than me, and cute looking." Gads tried to think if there was anything that would have distinguished her from the rest of the feebas population.
"Uh, she, ...." he stared off in the distance in thought, "She might have been asking about me, looking for me." It was a stab in the dark at its best. He felt rather useless after saying it. Gads refocused his eyes on the staryu moving in front of them. He wished he could swim even half as graceful and effortlessly as it was able to!
