In a world of extreme beauty, anyone normal...is Ugly. The word reminded one about how they aren't a Pretty,with big, beautiful eyes, soft skin and lips. The Uglies look across the River, wishing.....wanting...waiting to be one of them. Tally Youngblood was no exception. She was only three months away from becoming a pretty herself! But then her best friend Shay dissappeared to become a Smokie......Dr. Cable, the leader of Special Cercumstances, tells Tally that in order to become a pretty, she must betray her friend in order to join the other 16 year olds in New Pretty Town......but, we're getting ahead of ourselves, aren't we. There are more uglies running away to become Smokies, the Pretties only care about their parties, and the Specials are here to round up the strays..... This is about everyone else.........about the people behind the story in the Uglies Series........this.....is a special circumstance!
