Welcome to New York City
[/i]Here, the adventure starts in New York City 2008. Though for many, the party ends at midnight. Ever since the huge uprising of gangs and drug dealers, the city has set a curfew set on most young people that they're not allowed out of apartments or houses past midnight. Drugs have been thrown around as if they're the next highest fashion on New York City's fashion week, and nobody's turning them away. Gangs are on the hugest uprising in centuries, and everyone is pointing the finger at someone else. The city has been turned upside down and inside out with the violence and the drugs. With the curfew came a strict consequence for breaking it: You get caught out after midnight, you get jailed. Nobody wanted to sit through the process of having to wait to see if they were being mischievous, they wanted punishment, and quickly. Now, you say, well if I get jailed it's not a big deal, I'll just not get caught. Police roam the night, hiding in alleyways and street corners, waiting to see someone stalking the block or doing something conspicuous. Like all police, there are the good and bad ones. Some who are trying to protect everyone, and some who are trying to hurt everyone.
Just because it's the city, doesn't mean that everyone is rich and has money sticking out of their pockets. At the bottom of this malicious food chain, are the bohemians. The people who live their life squatting in condemned apartments that the city felt the higher citizens didn't have to live in. They don't have much money and sometimes do what they need, to live their lives by the skin of their teeth. Nobody sees the life they live, because for some they battle just living day by day, while others in the city find their life is where it all begins and will all end. Some of these people are where the majority of the drug dealing goes on, but it doesn't mean that the top of the chain can find it's way in too. A lot of these people are struggling musicians, junkies, or starving artists.
Next comes the group of people who don't exactly have a name. They're not rich, they're not poor, and they're not exactly sure what to do with their lives. These kids are the ones who either make it or break it in the city. Some of them go on to become huge producers, the next lead singer of Paramore, or something along the lines of an actor or actress. Then again, some kids find their content life not good enough, and go to try and find adventure. Some think that adventure is drug dealing, shooting up the next needle of heroin, or selling themselves to the greedy old man on the corner of 52nd. Some of these kids don't know how well they've got it, while others don't care.
At the top of this chain, comes the riches or the celebrity children. Most everyone in this certain group lives their lives pretty freely and easily. Some of them just inherit money from their parents who are either doctors, lawyers, or celebrities. The celebrity children are the kids whose parents have laid out their life with money and paparazzi and barely even lift a finger. I'm pretty sure a few of these kids can't even tie their own shoe laces. Then some of these celebrity children have made their way up that chain on their own, and are grateful for what they've earned that is rightfully theirs. Rarely will you ever see a bohemian making it up the social ladder to make it famous, but when they do it's all over as a 'Cinderella Story'. Pfft, New York City is anything but a fairy tale.
These children are fighting for their lives and their claim to fame every day. Nobody is equal in this city, and it has nothing to do with where they've come from. It's all about where they are now in life. The people at the top of that social ladder will do anything and everything to keep their name in headlines and keep their spot at the top. While the bohemian children are just fighting to stay alive day to day and the least of their worries is how to spend money, and where. Most anybody will make it or break it in New York. Are you one of them?
