~Idiot,~ thought Raker. He snarled at Chancol. If they turned those zangooses against them now they might kill Raker. Raker feared they were stronger than he was; he was still low level as houndooms went. " We don't need them, they have volunteered to be a part of this pack."

"I'm not saying betray 'em, I'm just sayin' that while they're screwing around with Scrappy, you could show that you're stronger than what you seem and claim you're own territory outside of the Fortress," Chancol said, trying to make sense of what was coming out of his mouth.

" Territory outside the Fortress...where there's better prey and no competition," said Duran.
Raker knew they were right. Perhaps it really was time to move on.
" And we could all get stronger, and return here one day," Duran went on.
Raker looked at the pup. " What do you know? You were sucking from your mother's teat just days ago probably."
" My mother was thrown in the dungeons and I was left to fend for myself," said Duran. " I know plenty."

Chancol didn't really have a connection with his parents, so he couldn't really relate to the loss of a mother or father. "And it could be made as a foothold for the rest of the Horde when finally they decide to move out and gain a grasp on the rest of Erymire. We could be known for more than just being subordinates of two zangooses, we could be part of a change in history," the charmander said, somewhat thinking far ahead of the time.

Duran was with Chancol on this, but he instinctively wanted to pack up with his own kind, or at least other dogs. But the charmander could be a big help anyway.
" Subordinates? Forget that," said Raker. " We're our own pack, we don't need them."
Harcus had overheard this, but he pretended not to hear. " We'll murder them once we figure out where they're going," he muttered to his brother out the side of his mouth. " And the first to go's going to be that houndoom."

Chancol nodded, his eyes drifted over to the rest of the pups, although he was alright with them, he had a feeling that leadership would be a problem...especially since a new leader had taken over the pup-pack. He raised a brow to get what Raker thought about the pups tagging along, not saying anything.

"Being close to the Horde is better," growled Dalla. She didn't like that stupid pup interfereing with everything they said. "We can watch them and better prepare outselves. Much easier to spy. And the kill is wonderful here. Why waste it? Hey if we get big enough we can get all the prey and then starve our enemies inside the walls."
Roy had seen that stupid Duirn grab a piece of his and Dalla's kill. Oh he'd show the little dweeb. He was the next in command. "There's a new houndour pack in the dungeons," he said, deciding now was the time to share the information he'd learned. "You guys should get after them before someone elses takes them." He tried to sound calm, though he was brimming with blood lust. Dog blood. Durin's blood.

Raker looked at Roy, " lead the way. We'll take that pack for our own. We could use more leverage around here."
Duran made sure that he stuck behind Roy the whole time. He'd seen the death glare in that pup's eyes and knew it was Roy or him. Just wait till he grew a little bigger...bigger than Roy.

"Ok," said Roy, working to hide the pride. He'd heard that it was a decent sized pack of houndour and houndoom. About 12 was the rumor. The poochyena padded towards the dungeons. The pack had been brought in a few days ago and were probably all shadowed up. He hoped they'd still be there.
Soon enough he'd reached the part of the dungeons where groups of captured Pokemon were housed. It was a ratty bunch of hounds. In a big cell they were lazily sprawled out around each other. Any food they'd been given was long gone. After the shadow lord's trouble with the aruseus it was obvious that the prisioners had been forgotten.
"Here they are," said Roy, nodding to the bunch. He hoped they weren't too scrappy. Scrappy enough to be a meal opposed to a help. He smelled the shadow on them. They'd been darkened in time.

Raker looked over the imprisoned pack. Though the cell was large, it was not nearly large enough to justify the number of dogs packed into it. They were practically on top of each other and swimming in their own waste. Raker wrinkled his nose a little.
Duran tried to keep a hardened mind about it, but he wasn't shadowed and couldn't help feeling sympathy for them. His gaze did not linger long on them, however. The young poochyena began to make his way along the other aisles to have a look at those cells. He wanted to find his mother.
Raker did not notice Duran leaving. " Well," he said to the group from the other side of the bars. " If you're ready to join my pack, I'll let you out and we can begin."
" Never," snarled a houndoom bitch that Raker found oddly attractive.
"Well perhaps if you have puppies by me, I can find worthy allies in them?" said Raker.
Duran stopped in front of a cell that contained a dead mightyena bitch, probably starved to death. He stared at his dead mother. But what caught his attention was that she was not the only thing in the cell. Young puppies, not yet weaned, were crawling about the place, shivering and whining. His siblings...

Chancol looked around, although he didn't have a sharp sense of smell like the dogs, he recoiled the instant the smell of waste hit his nose, "Shit..." he said, shaking his head. He also looked around for the two zangoose and Scrappy. He wasn't gonna do anything, but might as well see what condition his rodent friend was doing.

" That's a good word for it," said Raker. He opened the cell and let out the prisoners. " Now, you all look like you need a firebath and a good hunt. Let's go." Raker looked around for the rest of his charges. " Where's that oversized pooch?"
Duran came down the aisle as if on cue. " I found my mother--dead--with a litter of five puppies. They're going to die unless we do something."
" Then let them die, we have better things to worry about," said Raker.

The alpha female took a good hard leap out of the cage of waste. Her eyes reminded Dalla of diamonds. The bitch had a hard look that looked like she'd be difficult. Her fur was a true black and Dalla guessed it would shine if it was clean. "Come on now, you filthy lot," the bitch growled, looking back at her not so excited pack. THey wanted out, but they didn't want to be dominated by more dogs. Especially a pack that was primarily puppies.
The houndours and houndooms took that and most came out. "So what is this shindig a' yours anyway?" the alpha female growled. Her mate had been killed by the Horde. Even though she was a shadow now, she did not want to have anything to do with this sick place.

" One--to rule over those that ruled over us in the age before." Raker called the Shadowlord's time the age before. It was the old age, which was over now.
Duran leaped at the latch on the cellgate, trying to get it open. He had been too late to save his mother, but he wouldn't fail the siblings he now had. They were the poor bitch's last legacy...and apparently the ones that she had died while caring for, giving them the last energies of her flesh.
Duran leaped up again and smacked the cold latch with his nose. He yipped in pain and landed with his nose smarting. The cell latch at last turned open, though, and Duran moved in among the puppies.
Right away he knew they were too young to eat meat. He needed to find them nourishment, and that meant another nursing mother. But who, who would take them in?

Chancol watched Duran's efforts to save his siblings, he wondered if he'd succeed or not in finding a source of food for the puppies, although he didn't really care. He yawned, waiting for something else to do, wanting to do something.

"They're half dead," snorted a houndour female. She was young, but she had had a litter of her own that had been killed for food by the Horde. Her teats were still swelled with the unused milk that her young pups had drank. She watched Duran. "You really think you can save them?" She was surpised that he tried so hard. She stretched and flamed herself off. It was good to be out of the cell.
"So you want my pack's help?" growled the alpha. She wasn't really into the idea of helping out at this hell hole. But she knew that the Horde was strong and it was probably either help or end up dead. She hated it, but she wasn't giving up yet.
"We want you to join our forces, yes," said Dalla. "Really though, how else would you ever get out of here? You're all half dead and wouldn't survive long enough to get some kill." She knew this would anger the bitch. She didn't care. She was smarter and faster, or so she thought.

Duran had noticed the bitch's swollen teats. " If you'll suckle these puppies--I'll hunt for you so you can get good and fat again." He said it in hope. He had to save these puppies, for he had failed his mother and this would be the last favour he would be able to really do for her. He couldn't let hr die in vain.

Chancol raised a brow to what Duran said, ~He's smarter than he looks, kudos to you pup.~ The charmander wondered what the reply was going to be.

Raker gave an annoyed sigh and a roll of his eyes. Duran was being stupid. For one thing he was still a pup himself, and a young one--Raker had no idea how young, he thought he was an older pup because of his size, and even then, still too young to be a good hunter. He would never be able to come through on his side of the deal.
Duran was thinking about this too. Somehow he would have to secure the prey for this bitch, and she was a good deal bigger than him. He turned to the other pups. " And you guys will help me," he said in a harsh tone. If they didn't, he would force them.

"Why should we help a stupid dick like you?" said Roy. The older and larger poochyena lashed his tail with annoyance. "We could care less about your brothers. Especially if their has lame as you are." They were tiny. Tiny helpless whelps that weren't worth any bitches trouble. He hoped the bitch said no.
"You're a puppy yourself," growled the female that had snorted at Duran's siblings. They were so helpless though..and she missed her litter terribly. And if she was taking care of puppies she wouldn't have to directly work for the Horde...no, no she'd just raise their flithy young. That made so much sense. Either sweat for them or raise their kids. She had to pick kids. She knew the alpha bitch would be on her for it, but it was too hard to say no. "Fine. Better be a lot of kill."
"What?" The alpha narrowed her diamond eyes hearing the younger female's decision. "Neela you are insane to take on sick little whelps like them." Syris's eyes narrowed more and the bitch's tail lashed angerly.
"They're babies," snapped Syris. "I'd rather spend time with children then sweat for this place."

Duran had had it with Roy. " I'll show you lame you lameass runt!" He leapt for the older pup's throat. His teeth were bared and his jaw tense to snap shut and clench on his rival's jugular.

Chancol watched with interest, he liked to watch a good fight, especially if it wasn't between anyone he knew. Personally his bet was on Roy, but anything could happen. Only time would tell on how this would turn out, the charmander wondered if both lived and split up, who would the rest follow?

"Hey back off you asshole," snarled Roy. He was lucky with this. His enemy's teeth sunk into a less vulnerable part of his neck. A meatier part. He pulled away, and a bunch of flesh was ripped off. As he pulled away, he swatted his big paw at Duran's face angerly.
"Oh fuck," muttered Syris. She'd made a bad choice. The stupid kid had decided he'd rather fight another kid rather than thank her.

The other pups watched the fight between Duran and Roy. Whoever won would have dominion over them, and frankly most of them were hoping Roy would win so they wouldn't be forced to do hunting for this houndoom.

"Are you gonna fight?" snarled Roy, awaiting Duran's next move. He kept light on his feet, wanting to be able to dodge anything the other poochyena threw at him.

Duran didn't wait for his enemy to say any more. He knew that if he couldn't win this pack, he wouldn't be able to hold up his end of the bargain with Syris. The pup again lunged at Roy with his jaws outstretched, trying to get at his neck and inflict a lethal bite.

Roy felt the other pup's teeth sink into his skin again. But again, Duran had missed. He pulled away, swinging the slightly smaller pup around. Maybe he could fling Duran into the hard rock wall.

Duran tried to keep his paws on the ground, but Roy's greater weight made him slide over the masonry and then slam into the bars of one of the cellgates. He turned on Roy and, shaking off his slightly starry vision he made another leap at the hated barrier to having his way.

Boy was Roy getting lucky. Since his opponent had been smashed into the bars, the aim of the leap had not been great. Roy was easily able to lean over out of the way of Duran. He took a snap at the other pup's shoulder which appeared in front of his hungry jaws.

Chancol chuckled a little watching Duran's disoriented attacks. ~C'mon get you're head on right!~ he thought wanting to see a good fight, instead of a pup just attacking blindly, although the charmander had no problem with getting a good laugh outta this.
