Making a friend -Closed-

[talon]

Jay padded into the tallgrass prairie. Again, he wandered off away from his brothers so he didnt have to listen to them argue. Inside the den in a tree they had made, it sounded like there was a tiny village having a cold war. He layed down and rolled onto his back, looking up at the clouds.

A small vulpix lay under an oran berry bush, shivering in fear. She had left her surigate family and was now trying to make her way into the world. But she was off to a very rough start. First she had fallen in a creek and then she had been mobbed by murkrow for going too near their tree. So there she lay, pecked up and bloody, most of the gold flecks in her coat covered in dry blood. She heard the comotion outside, but she did not even dare to open her eyes

Jay perked his ears straight up and blinked his sightless eyes. He smelled something he had smelled before, and suddenly he realized it was dried blood. Talon wasnt nearby, so what was it? He followed the scent trail, which led him to an oran berry bush. Hidden beneath the scent of dry blood and oran berries, he smelled the scent of a vulpix. He used his muzzle to make an entrance in the bush. He slipped in and stared at the vulpix, almost as if he could see.

The tiny vulpix opened her eyes then let out a yelp of fear. She leap painfully to her feet and started to back away."Wwwwhhho are yyyyouuuu???" She asked, every step causing more pain. Some of her wounds opened up and fresh blood began pouring down her sides.

[talon]

Jay just blinked his cloudy blue eyes. He could smell the fresh blood pouring down the Vulpix's wounds. "My name is Jay, now lay down. I can hear you backing away." he said calmly. He padded calmly towards the scared vulpix and carefully went towards where her wounds were, careful not to scare her.

She layed down agenst her better judgement. She looked into his sightless eyes and whimpered. " I am sorry. I have had a rough start...Are you blind?" She suddenly shut her mouth. What had possessed her? She was rude for one, then she was talking to a stranger almost twice her size!

[talon]

"Actually, I am. Instead of seeing with my eyes, I taught myself to 'see' with my ears and nose." he said. He lookedaround and dashed out, coming back with some vines and leaves. "I can fix up those wounds if you want." he said, dropping them and grabbing some oran berries.

The vulpix looked at the poochena and smiled. "please do. My name is Destiny. Do you live and roam alone?"She asked, looking over the male infront of her. She felt exaused but she had to stay awake.

[talon]

"Actually, I have to roam and deal with my two brothers, but ive had to do that scince I was a pup." he replied, chuckling slightly. He broke open some of the oran berries and rubbed the juice on the leaves, then set it on the wounds, tying it down with the vines. "There. That should atleast stop the pain and bleeding." he said, smiling. "Nice name, by the way." he added, looking down at the Vulpix.

She waited pashiently for him to finish dressing her wounds. When he finished, she carfully stood up and licked his nose. "Thanks...Your brothers sound nice..Can I meet them? and maybe...can I...um......" She drifted off, not finishing her thought.

[talon]

"If you want, you can, but I would be careful around Talon. Hes the one with the red streaks in his fur- you'll notice him right away. Well, we might as well get moving now." Jay said. He slipped out of the bush and shook the leaves from his smoky-gray fur. He ran a little ways and stopped to make sure Destiny could keep up.

Destiny pushed her way out of the bush and climbed the hill after Jay. She liked him. He was kind and conciderate. Her heart was fluttering like a pidgey. Was this what father had said before dropping her with her surrigate family? Is this the feeling of the beginning? Is this the feeling of love?

[talon]

Jay smiled as he heard Destiny chasing after him. He took off running, but he stayed slow enough for Destiny to keep up. Finally he came across the tree that they were staying under. He sat down in front of it, allowing Destiny to go under first.

A jet-black poochyena slitheres out from under the tree, almost tackling Jay. "Hey! Where you been? You just took off when Talon pinned me down!" he barked. The jet-black poochyena was Striker, one of Jay's brothers.

"Ignore that, Striker. I want you to meet somebody. Her name is Destiny." Jay responded. ignoring the shuffling from beneath the tree.

A gray streak of fur came from under the tree, almost looking like a blur. Finally it stopped next to Jay, appearing as a poochyena with red streaks going through its fur. This was Talon, Jay's most aggresive and hostile brother. He slammed his tail against the ground annoyingly. "We still havent settled this, Striker!" Talon howled annoyingly.

Jay sighed. "Shut up you two, shes coming!" he barked at his two brothers, annoyed.

Destiny moved her small legs as fast as they could go but she still was alittle ways behind Jay. She saw his disappear under a tree and she heard growling and over heated voices. She crept slowly towards the tree, searching for Jay, the only person she was cofortable with in this crewl world. "Jay? Are you there?" she called, worry taking a tone in her soft and beautiful voice.

[talon]

"Yep." Jay answered as he poked his head out from under the tree.

Striker slid out. "Hey." he greeted, growling at Talon, who was also sliding out.

Talon slipped out after Striker, his blood-streaked fur scruffed up. All he did was growl, hostile of they're new friend.

Destiny felt a small comfort to see her friend, but it was erased by his growling brother. She cowwarded back, her fur sleekied down, tails down, tryin g to make herself as small as possible. She opened her mouth to speak, but all that can out was a soft whimmper. She slowly backed up, but in doing so she backed into a bush. She stood frozen in fear and waited for doom.

[talon]

"Calm down, Talon!" Jay said, a hint of agression in his voice. He padded into the bush that Destiny had backed into. "Its ok. That was Talon. He won't actually attack unless you threaten him." he said quietly. He slid his smoky-gray tail down Destinys back to try and calm her down.

Destiny snuggled close into jay's side. She felt his warmth and it calmed her nerves. "Ok..." she studdered."I am ready to meet them now." SHe took a hesitent step forward.

[talon]

Jay nodded and stepped out of the bush. "Anyways, Destiny, meet my two brothers, Striker and Talon." he said happily.

Striker nodded. He smiled slightly, happy to see that Jay had found a friend. It was obvious that Jay had taken a liking to Destiny.

Talon just snorted. He was tired of Jay always taking over. He was blind, so what did he expect Talon to do? 'Hah! Well, let's see just who is right about her...' Talon thought, grabbing a bunch of Oran berries. "We might as well get going now if we are gonna get to the volcano by sunset." he said, acting calmer.

Destiny nodded to Striker, a small smile played across her face. She did not mind Striker, but Talon was still menicing. She stayed close to Jay as she asked, "So, we are heading to the volcano? That sounds....exciting!" She said in her clear and beautiful voice almost all her fear erased.

[talon]

"Yeah. I cant actually see it, but i know its beautiful!" Jay said excitedly. "Well, let's go! Want a ride on my back? It'll be easier." He said. He had a liking to Destiny, and it was obvious. He heard his two brothers take off towards where the long path to the volcano was.

Destiny looked at Jay quisically. "Ride on your back? Are you sure?" She shrugged and said, "well....if you insist..." She carfully climbed onto his back and grabbed a mouthfull of his scruff. "Rery" she said through fur.

[talon]

Jay smiled and nodded. He scrunched back and took off, just slow enough where Destiny wouldnt lose her grip and fall off. He caught up with his two brothers. "Striker, can you scent which way the western mountains are? Itll be quicker if we just go there instead of going all the way around." he said, glancing at Striker. He always moved his eyes as if he could see, but he couldnt.

Striker scented the air, still running. "That way!" he answered, pointing his nose to where it was. He could see the mountains in the distance.

Talon nodded. "Looks like we go that way then." he said. He had completely forgotten Destiny was with them, and he was acting calmer then ever.

Destiny listened intently to the brothers. It was so nice to have friends. She held tight to Jay as they jogged along. Jay seemed to be the leader of this little pack and she liked it that way.

[talon]

Jay nodded and turned in the direction that Striker had pointed too, following Striker's scent. "Ok, Talon, go ahead and check for danger." Jay said. He never talked in a commanding voice and he was always calm.

Talon nodded and dashed ahead, climbing straight up a tree. Without close observation, he could have easily been mistaken for a gray and red Sentret. He got up on his hind paws when he was at the top, his ears perked and alert. "Nothing that I can see from up there!" he barked, jumping down from the tree.

Striker skidded to a stop, right in front of Jay. "Wheres Destiny?" He asked, not seeing her on Jay's back.

Destiny let go of the fur she was holding and poped her head over Jay's. She lay her chin on his head and said. "I am right here! It is so much fun! I can see and hear everything and I don't slow you down because I am so small!" She giggled and nuzzled the top of Jay's head.

[talon]

Jay smiled slightly as Destiny nuzzled the top of his head. "I wouldn't wanna go in a fight against ya!" he said playfully.

"Come on. I can see the path from here. We have to get going." Talon said.

Striker nodded. He took off at full speed, his brothers trailing after them. They were almost there.
