Name of Species Meleeon
Type Fighting
Dimensions Standing at a mere 2’11” in height—ears included—, this small bundle of energy can pack a punch no sensible creature will wish to become familiar, or—better yet—reacquainted with a second time in their life. Despite their small stature, they’re heavyweight and laden with muscles packed tautly within their small, dense bodies: as a result, they weigh a lot—at least weighing 55 lbs.—and can’t jump too high without making the ground tremble a little upon landing. But they can manage a good ten foot leap in the air when determined enough.
Reproduction Mammalian, live birth. Reproduction is very rare in these species, as some tend to lack firm personal commitment when it comes to settling down and devoting themselves to matters other than improving their own chances of survival, especially when the environment is unfavorable for litters. However, when fate has it that these Pokémon become attached to another, a Meleeon’s mate will find that their bond will develop quickly, and harden to an ever abiding loyalty. Anything that gets in the way of this inseparable pair is sure to garner one helluva beating. Elaborate displays of courtly behavior and physical brawn are consistent in the male’s part of Meleeon courtship, as such acts of gaining the affections of a vixen are indispensable in order to demonstrate their prospective in guaranteeing their to-be mate a lifetime of security. Weaker individuals of either sex are usually futile in their efforts of locating a mate, as survival of their young is looked upon as crucial and any deficiency in either partner can lead to the deaths of both parents and pups. Contests are usually held if two males rival in seeking the affection of one female—a rare occurrence, as hardly three of the same specie meet up—in which the far more potential in combat is chosen victor and promptly sided by his new mate. Meleeon mate for life, as they rarely deviate to unfaithful acts against their one-and-only partner, and seldom is a Meleeon widowed, as it is often that both die simultaneously as a result of together engaging in battle. Mating generally occurs in the early winter for this species, though through other circumstances it may occur in any season; gestation lasts between 51 and 53 days, the males providing for their mates in the meantime. Litters usually consist of five to seven Eevee pups, born helpless and blind of course, though their eyes open after a week. Sexual maturity is reached as early as ten months in a Meleeon.
Lifespan Ten to twelve years, if a Meleeon is lucky enough. On average, this Pokémon has been known to live only four to five years, due to the high percentage of predators that could easily make a meal out of something its size, and its tendency to take risks quite often.
Description A small, bipedal fox-like Pokemon with large ears, it bears a pair of thin, lanky forelimbs with thickset hindlegs bulging with solid and well-developed muscle. It has a moderately round-squared skull with prominent tufts of fur tapering on its cheeks, its broad triangular ears attentively perked atop its head with notches lining the outer rim. Blackish-blue circles heavily outline its large eyes—mimicking rather painful-looking shiners, or perhaps it's just tired from all the training it does. Its fur is a deep shade of reddish-brown, with darker, burnt-brown bands circling its waist, heels, footpaws, and the base of its tail, with another closer to the end. A pair of thick, shackle-like cuffs are linked about its wrists, along with one around its neck, with its forepaws somewhat larger and promising to deliver painful strikes in battle. Short, coarse bristly strands of fur compose its fine-grained coat, with longer forward-facing tufts projecting from its head like bangs, and elbows. It has a broad half-mane fanning out behind its head, engulfing its shoulders, and its long streamlined tail broadens towards the end, where it fans out in a spiky tassel (kind of resembling the leafy top of a pineapple) beyond the later tail-band. There’s also a cream-colored rectangular patch of fur on its underside, disappearing below the “waistline”-band on its stomach. With bright white, calculating eyes, the dark tapestry of its pupils evoke a sense of watchfulness in the minds of those who happen to gaze into the Meleeon's humorless façade.
Disposition Iron-willed and resilient, this Pokémon can endure the toughest of beatings and still put up a vicious fight. Painstaking, quick-witted, and courageous, it is exceedingly versatile and has been known to survive in a diversity of climates, even acknowledging life-altering catastrophes that would have otherwise broken the most hard-wearing soul with a curt turn of its head. Very rarely does this Pokémon remedy to moving around on all fours, mostly because its hindlegs are far better developed for enduring long, tiresome treks over terrain without tiring too quickly—and it prefers to keep its forepaws clean for a fight. Skittish when confronting strangers, it tends to avoid conflicts with those it is unfamiliar with until it gets to learn them better, then fight tactically with a perseverance to be reckoned with. In conflicts, Meleeon will push to the extreme, refusing to flee so as to preserve their high ideals, and occasionally fighting to the death. They finds friends easily, in those willing to cooperate with their standard of living, and have been known to make friends with the most unconventional forms of predator at times.
Habitat Meleeon normally reside throughout the rugged foothills in colder, mountainous regions, preferably secluded from Pokémon that would be more effective against it in battle. Though tending to travel anywhere their senses lead them, they can be found in differing environments depending on how well the habitat can provide for their needs—ranging from deserts to ocean shores and even subterranean dwellings. However, they are rare in territories foreign from their own natural habitation in the mountains.
What does this Pokémon eat? Mostly carnivorous, this Pokémon hunts smaller creatures, varying from birds in the air, to insects found in crags in the rock. Driven into malnourishment, a desperate Meleeon is known to go after “prey” several times its own size for the sake of food, and often unsuccessfully at the cost of its own life. When it happens to take down larger opponents, it can make the carcass last for weeks, rationing its meals evenly. As a way of expressing their asceticism, Meleeon hardly resort to scavenging off another’s foodstuff, or remains they stumble upon. Its immune system allows it to eat poisonous plants at times, but only if nothing else can suffice for its hunger. It loves berries, whenever it can find them, and will often gorge itself uncontrollably on the fruit it finds to the point of bloatedness (and nothing is more fearsome an opponent than a Meleeon tipsy on berry juice.)
How common is this Pokémon? Although believed to be scarce in number, they are actually a plentiful specie infrequently encountered as a result of their solitary behavior. They would be copious across the regions, if it weren’t for the constant gambles with their lives they engage in day after day, for obligations such as food, and pride. A close-knit group may remain together for a long-lasting existence, in a clan or “tribe”, but because of their inability to cope with each other’s high evaluations of themselves, they often dissipate after a short period of a month or so.
Means of Evolution An Eevee will only involve into a Meleeon once it has gained the purest form of companionship with another and has consumed an Energy Root.
