Faya felt the pain sear through her like a knife. So much like her sister. Begging her to leave. Chancing a quick break, she cut off her fire and spoke to him rapidly.
"I can't leave you. The lava will store up. On the count to three, you jump up here with us and we'll run. I'll hold it while you leap."
Then, as swiftly as she had stopped, she shot forth her flames once more, pushing the wave farther back. She couldn't leave him. They couldn't garuantee that he would make it safely away if they left him there, and she wasn't about to let someone else close to her fade away. No, she knew what that was like, and she had only just begun to close the wound thanks to her new friends.

(Sorry about the length. This is seriously the only idea I could come up with...)
Landing safely on the bank, Blaze followed his two friends and watched as they pushed the wave of lava back with Flamethrowers. What am I supposed to do? I'm still working on fire attacks, and besides, I think my mom told me one time that Ponyta don't even learn Flamethrower by leveling up... With all the heat I absorb earlier, I might be able to pull of a Fire Spin, but what we need now is raw power and that's not going to cut it!
Although the wave of lava was slowly being pushed back, Faya and Koribi were both showing definite signs of fatigue, and Blaze wondered if they could do it by themselves. Wondering what he could do to help, he remembered something else his mother had taught him about Ponyta when he'd still been a yearling. Ponyta are one of the fastest Pokemon there are or at least of the evolved variety! This wasn't going to be the most pleasant thing he'd had to do today, but it could be necessary to save all their lives.
Galloping at a break-neck, he headed toward Koribi first since he was the closest to the wave. Lowering his head, he cooled the flames on his body and scooped the Growlithe up, feeling him fall safely onto his back, and, thankfully, he stopped his Flamethrower before he scorched the Ponyta's neck. Koribi was heavier than he expected, but with adrenaline pumping, he managed to bear the extra weight. "Hold on!" he grunted as he turned back toward Faya, picking the small Vulpix up by the scruff of her neck with his mouth. Blaze moaned a bit when he felt Koribi grip him tightly, but since Growlithe could only hold on with teeth and claws, he knew it was necessary.
By this time, the lava was on the Ponyta's heels, and for a terrifying moment, Blaze wondered if was fast enough. Fear flooding through him, he lengthened his strides and realized that he'd actually not been going flat out until now. Slowly the distance between him and the lava grew larger, but where could they go to escape the wave? There seemed to be no escape.
Looking up, Blaze notice many small ledges several feet above them that were higher than the wave would be able to reach, and he headed for the closest one. Ponyta are supposed to be amazing jumpers, but I've never jumped that high before. Can I do it? I have to! As his body tensed to take the leap of a lifetime, he snorted in surprise as his pace quickened until he entered a whole new level of speed. Am I using Agility!?
"Hold on as tight as you can!" he managed panted to Koribi, which was difficult with Faya still hanging from his mouth. Gathering the last of his strength, he leaped as high as he could, and as he soared through the air, he almost felt like he was flying. When he had almost reached the ledge, he realized- as always- that there was a major loophole in his plan. As exhausted as he was and with a heavy Pokemon on his back, how was he going to land on the ledge safely? His main concern was Faya, who he feared would be crushed under the combine weight of him and Koribi.
"Koribi, jump off onto the ledge! I'm rolling over!" Blaze mumbled through Faya's fur, hoping that the Growlithe had gotten the message. Still in mid-air, he turned himself over and covered the little Vulpix protectively with his front legs. Yelping in pain as his back slammed onto the ground, he slid for several feet before he finally came to a stop. Coughing on the ash that was blown into the air, he gently let go of Faya but was too exhausted to get up. It was then that he noticed something about the ledge he hadn't seen from the ground. There was a long black tunnel at the end of it, which was what he and Faya were in now.

Faya didn't have time to react as the ponyta suddenly leaped down, a blurr of speed. The next thing she knew, Blaze's jaws were clamped firmly around her scruff and she was dangling above the flow, her body going limp as she automatically reacted. Eyes wide, she couldn't help but stare down at the flames that fed against the stones hungrily, threatening to crash down on Blaze. As the ponyta ran faster, she suddenly felt the warm air whoosh into her face as the ground grew farther and farther.
How is he running this fast?
It was all she could do to keep from squealing at the sudden burst of momentum. Then she felt fur against her sides as Blaze tumbled towards the ground. She waited for the pain as they collided with the ledge. But strangely, she felt none. She closed her eyes, her body trembling with fear.
"B....Blaze? Koribi?"
She stuttered, slowly looking up to view their surroundings. They were back at the entrance to the tunnel. Koribi was alright, but Blaze..... Leaping to her paws, she sniffed the ponyta, shock and concern on her face.
He risked his life to save us....

Koribi held on for dear life as the Ponyta scooped him up and began to run. He was slightly annoyed...he had wanted them to go and escape without having to risk themselves for him! The silly pokemon...but Koribi knew that if he tried to play hero this time none of them would make it out alive. So he gripped on, as tightly as he could...though when he heard Blaze groan in pain, he loosened up a bit, and attempted to shift position to his mane, where it would be less painful.
But then, the dead end...all of the ledges that would save them, out of reach...Koribi hadn't at all expected Blaze to try a jump like THAT. However, he did...and as fast as he could, he followed Blazes instructions. Using his hindpaws as leverage he leapt off of Blaze's back, aiming towards the end of the ledge he had gone towards. He only just barely made it. With his claws scrambling madly to get ahold of the edge, he struggled to make his way to the top...
Once he made it, he took a moment to rest, panting heavily. He was a bit angry with himself, to say the least...he had to be dependant on other pokemon's help...he HATED being dependant on other pokemon's help...He glanced dully towards the other two, still panting a bit. His eyes lost that look quickly though.
"Blaze!" he barked, rushing over to the Ponyta. "Are you alright? Blaze! Blaze, speak to us! DON'T GO TOWARDS THE LIGHT, BLAZE!"

As Blaze lay still on his back, he heard the voices of Faya and Koribi and turned his head to the side and saw them standing beside him, concerned. "I think I'm going to be alright, but don't expect any free rides soon. You're heavy Koribi....," he groaned. His back felt sore and painful and when he rolled to examine it, he saw several long scrapes across it. He felt grateful that he wasn't seriously hurt.
Looking back at his friends, he remembered a thought that he'd had while escaping from the lava wave. Blaze was typically an adventurous sort of Ponyta, who enjoyed journeying around from place to place. He attracted adventure like honey attract a Teddiursa, but he didn't mind, taking on each challenge with enthusiasm and vigor. Faya and Koribi seemed to have some kind of special bond with each other that Blaze didn't really understand, but they could've easily been hurt just now, and he couldn't stand to have something like that happen to them. Since he pretty much blamed himself and felt guilty for what happened with the Charmeleon and lava, he wondered if his two friends wouldn't be better off without him around. Perhaps if he journeyed off somewhere away from them, such dangerous things wouldn't happen to them anymore....
"The only light I see is the one on my butt. Does that count?" he joked, trying to bring smiles to their faces. "Hey, why don't you two go and see what's up ahead while I rest here for a minute." Actually, he did need to rest, but he mostly wanted the time alone to decide what he was going to do next. Should he just slip away quietly or just come out and tell them? Maybe he could just use the excuse that it was time for him to move on.... He would miss them very much, but maybe him leaving would be the best thing for them.....

Koribi gave his usual lopsided grin, tongue lolling out. He was glad to see that his friend was okay. "You just rest here and we'll scout out how to get back to the open!" he beamed. "Just leave it to us!" ...He paused for a moment, noticing something...lingering in Blaze's eyes. It was similar to something that haunted him...
"...Blaze?" he asked, turning around slightly. He looked at him with a surprising amount of seriousness for a few moments, before grinning again with a was of his tail. "Make sure you catch up with us quick. Rest for a minute, but we don't want you staying behind." With that, he nodded to Faya. "Let's give him a chance to catch his breath," he said with a smile. "He'll meet us at the front as we can leave together." He emphasized the last word...they were friends now. That look in his eye spelled out trouble to Koribi, and he wouldn't let that happen. He wouldn't let someone just...just leave...

Faya realized she had been holding her breath, and she let it out in relief as she realized Blaze was ok. Her ears twitched slightly at the tone of his voice. It brought the faint memory of her sister, just before.... Blinking, she felt her mind cloud, and she could no longer recall what thoughts she had been tracing. Shrugging, she nodded, allowing her relief to show on her features. Trotting softly ahead, she looked around, wondering if they might be able to make their way back to the opening she had fallen through.
If I hadn't gone exploring in the first place, then this never would have happened.
She thought, dissappointment in her self bringing a new weight on her paws. Suddenly, she spotted a faint glow of light ahead, and she caught the faint traces of their scent coming from the place they had been only moments ago.
"Koribi! It's the exit!"
She called excitedly, turning around and running back to the growlithe.

"AH!" Koribi yelped excitedly as he rushed to Faya's side, tail wagging as he looked out towards the opening. "Perfect! And it's not even very far! See?" he nodded his head backwards, motioning towards Blaze's form. "Oooooiii! BLAZE!" he howled back. "Faya found the exit! Now c'mon! The packs gotta stick together! Who knows what'll happen when we have our next adventure, right?" He gave a wink to Faya. It was pretty much obvious that they were a pack now...at least to Koribi. Heck, one adventure, in a large volcano, racing against lava? It guarenteed a friendship for life!
"C'mon, Blaze!" he shouted, wagging his tail with his tongue lolling out of his mouth. "Get with the pack already! If we don't hurry it'll be dark and then we won't have time to find someplace to sleep!"

While Faya and Koribi ran on ahead, Blaze weighed the choices that lay before him. Should he leave his friends in relative peace or allow them to join him in the various adventures and dangers that seemed follow him everywhere he went? His mother had always warned him that his outgoing nature and strong love of adventure would get him into trouble and she'd been right countless times. He realized that leaving without saying good bye would hurt his friends very much, but if he told them, he also knew that they would probably insist that he stick with them.
Before Blaze could even begin to come to a decision, Koribi howled back to him that they'd found an exit. "Pack, eh?" he said, unable to keep a grin from spreading across his face. Faya and Koribi were just the kind of Pokemon that Blaze found that it was almost impossible to feel depressed around. "Where I'm from, we call it a herd, but pack sounds good to me..... Really good. When my family back home finds out that I'm part of a pack, though, they're not going to believe it!" At that, he began to laugh in his own horse-like way. We're a pretty strange pack with me as a member.
Despite the humor, Blaze realized that they would always be friends, even if they did go their separate ways. A pack.... He hadn't felt such a sense of belonging since he left home six months ago and didn't even realize that he'd missed it this much. It won't hurt to stay a little while longer, I guess. I owe them that much....
Climbing to his hooves, he trotted over to his friends. "Alright... Let's go!" He felt a surge of excitement as he wondered what lay before them.

A large beam spread across Koribi's face as he saw Blaze headed for him. "Thank goodness..." he thought to himself. "I thought he would be...oh well, he isn't and that's what matters."
"Right!" he barked happily, his tail wagging a mile a minute. "First thing we should do is find somethin' to eat, and then maybe a good place to sleep? If we do that then we'll be able to have a lot more fun...plus I'm super hungry." He looked down, embarrassed, as his stomach rumbled.

Faya couldn't help but laugh out loud. Perhaps she had finally found companions to stick with, maybe even to concider family.
Like two older brothers...
She thought to herself. And she knew that, not only did they bring each other happiness, but they all had a gift to share with each other. What hers was, who knew. But she did know one thing. They were a family now. And families always stuck together, no matter how far apart they were. Even if she might never see her sister again, knowing that she was surrounded by friends who, as proven before, would give their lives for her, she couldn't bring herself to wonder if her sibling missed her. The only thing she could do was rejoice that they had made it out, all of them, alive.

(pst, hey guys, this one sorta seemed to be wrapping up so...I made a new thread, still here in Volcano for us if we want ^^ I thought maybe if we had a new thread more people would join our little "pack" too, but I got a random idea and decided it might be fun to try it. It's in "Searching for Treasure!" thread)
