"That sound great!" Blazed neighed excitedly, pawing the ground. The prospect of playing around with these two reminded him of the games he used to play with the other colts in the meadow at home. He already felt that he could great friends with the playful Koribi and quiet at first but friendly Faya.
"Let's go ahead and start!" Blaze scanned the area around them, already planning out possible hiding places.

The Vulpix watched the fight, slightly horrified. She yelped once and slank behind a rock, tails tucked and ears flat on her head. She peeked out slightly, watching turn after turn, and watched the other Vulpix's careless attitude about the fight.
She shrank further behind the bolder, shaking slightly. She didn't like fights, but these Pokemon seemed to. The Carmeleon was what scared her most, and she didn't like aggressive Pokemon. Then a thought ran through her mind... What if this place is too mature for me? Bella was a very mature-minded Vulpix, although several seemed to think otherwise because of her size. Size doesn't matter, she rationalized.
Yes, that was true. Size didn't matter, so why was she hiding behind this rock? Oh yeah, she thought, I'm afraid of fights. She let an audible sigh escape and scuttled behind the rock, and didn't look at what was going on.

Blaze snorted in surprise, as his ears twitched in the direction of a nearby rock. (Ponyta have excellent hearing.) Wondering if it could be something even more dangerous than a charmeleon, he turned back to his two new friends.
"Did you hear that?" He pawed at the ground, ready for anything.

Koribi shook his head of his thoughts of Faya...as hard as it was at the moment, for something about her excited face made him happier than he had felt in the longest time... as he listened for whatever sound Blaze had heard. A small yelp came to his attention, and with a wide grin he bounded up the rocky cliffside and poked his head over the boulder, spotting Bella.
"Ooooi, she found a great spot!!" he called out to the other two. "She'll have no problem with this game! You wanna play too?" He asked with a wag of his tail. "That's alright, isn't it Faya, Blaze?"

Realizing that the sound came from a pokemon that Koribi knew, Blaze trotted over to meet him or her. He lept up the cliffside with little difficulty and stuck his large head over the rock. Although a little surprised to discover that it was another vulpix, this one with strange green eyes, he grinned at her and said, "Hi there. I'm Blaze." He noticed that she looked a little scared but didn't comment on it, hoping that she would calm down. He turned back to Faya. "Hey Faya. It's another vulpix!"

Faya pricked her ears, smiling, which was quite rare for her. Looking up, she noticed the small vulpix she had seen earlier. She hadn't realized, through all the excitement, that she was still there, and she felt a wave of guilt at forgetting her. Bounding over to Koribi, she felt happy for once in a long time. She felt that she was around friends here, and she nodded enthusiastically. Perhaps this vulpix would be their friend too.
"Hi there! My name's Faya."
She barked cheerfully. She looked from side to side at her friends.
Who would've thought in a few moments I could've met such great pokemon. Blaze is really smart, and Koribi...
She looked at the growlith for a long moment. And then a smiled spread across her features. She wasn't quite sure what it was, but he made her happy. In a way he brought new life to her, and she wouldn't forget that. Maybe it was his cheerfulness? His optimism? Something that made him seem enchanting, as if he came from a whole other world where sadness didn't exist. She smiled at the thought, unaware that she was still watching the growlithe.

Koribi felt a grin appear on his face. "That's a yes from both! And we won't take no for an answer from you!" he said with a happy wag of his tail, motioning towards Bella. "So, I'll count! Don't think this'll be easy, everyone!" He glanced over at Faya and noticed that their eyes met...he stared at her for a moment, in a mix of confusion as to why she was staring at him, and a strange feeling he couldn't quite place...but he quickly turned his head away again, shaking it quickly to try and rid himself of the heated feeling that had spread on his face...a blush, though he didn't know that. "Kay!" he said, crouching down and hiding his face in his paws. "You all have till thirty! One...two...three....um...four, that's it!" He shook his head again...what was wrong with him to make him forget the number four? All he got was Faya's face...no, no, concentrate... "Five...."

Giggling, she quickly covered her muzzle with one of her tails, shocked at her own display of affection and humor at the growlithe's stutter. Something about him... Quickly regaining her composure, she looked around, her eyes flickering from place to place until she spotted a small inlet of rocks. Flicking her ears, she bounded nimbly over, leaving a silent trail. Suddenly, she stumbled just as she thought of Koribi. Bewildered, she looked over her shoulder. Something inside her stirred. Unable to place it, she shook her head, ducking behind the sheltered rocks and blocking the small entrance. Shrouded in a dark corner of the spread out heap, her crimson fur slowly adjusted to the black and she seemed to dissappear.

Hearing Koribi counting, Blaze quickly whispered to the new vulpix, "Hi. I'm Blaze." Out loud he yelled, "No fair! You guys are small!" Flashing a final grin at the vulpix, he galloped around the side of a mountain and slowed to a walk. Seeing a nearby cave, he tiptoed over to it and hid himself inside.
Am I imagining that Faya and Koribi are acting a little strange? Oh well, what do I know? I just met them.
Laying at the back of the cave in shadows, he readied himself to quietly wait. The seconds dragged slowly by.......

"...twenty-nine..." Koribi called out, preparing to bound off, his nose twitching in excitement of the "hunt". "...Thirty!" He brought his paws back towards the ground and leapt off, sniffing the air excitedly. He instantly caught Faya's scent...it was almost...overpowering...but he shook his head, snorting a bit. She wouldn't want to be found first...he turned his head and sniffed again. This time, though it was weaker, he picked up Blaze's scent. Creeping along the rocky walls, he prepared for the surprise attack, stopping right in front of a small cave...
"...FOUND YOU!" he shouted, leaping out into the view of the cave entrance with an excited wag of his tail. "Now I just have to find Faya!"

Faya crouched farther into the crevice, hearing the growlithe's pawsteps nearing. Holding her breath, she felt a thrill at his scent and she felt slightly lightheaded.
Maybe it's the vog from the volcano. Who knows what that stuff can do to you.
She thought weakly, but as soon as Koribi's scent faded, her mind cleared and she felt as good as new. Confused, she leaned forward slightly, peeking through the rock cleft at the seeker. He was heading towards a cave. Perhaps where Blaze was hiding? Creeping back quietly, she almost yelped as she felt her paw slide backwards. A rock thudded down a narrow passage behind her that had escaped her vision before. It wasn't loud enough for Koribi to hear, but it shook her anyway. Looking over her shoulder to make sure Koribi was looking for Blaze, she crept farther down the passage, feeling a draft of warm air shoot through the vent. Crouching down, she crawled farther into the tunnel, trembling as the heat thickened, clogging the air. Then, to her surprise, the ground suddenly dropped off into a wide cavern and she dropped down into complete darkness. At first, she panicked, afraid she wouldn't reach ground and would continue to fall forever, but she sighed in relief as her paws hit solid rock. Surprisingly, it was cool under her pads and she focused on directing the heat in her body into a lamplike feature, lighting the way. She must be a few feet below the surface, so there was no harm in investigating. Standing up to her full height, she decided to get a good look around.
The tunnel was about twice as heigh as Blaze and maybe as wide as two snorlaxes, which is saying a lot. Its walls were smooth, like limestone except black, and the ground had a sort of sooty layer of volcanic dust that was shockingly cold. She decided to spend only a few minutes down there. She would be back up in time so the others wouldn't worry. Besides, if she got lost, she could always find her foot prints in the volcanic dust. She kept mental note to make sure she was always walking on the soot. Then a thought struck her. She would eventually have to get back up.
Faya had fallen through the ceiling and had luckily landed on the soot, which worked as a cushion for her. Thankfully, she spotted a nearby rock cleft that was just low enough for her to climb yet high enough to reach the roof opening. She would be fine, as long as she didn't lose her way or any other pokemn didn't attack her.

Koribi sniffed the ground excitedly. He had once again found the trail leading to Faya...oh, how that scent was impossible to forget, once he had grabbed ahold of it the first time...it was almost...intoxicating...but he had a game to concentrate on. Blaze was trotting along behind him in their search.
"...Where...hmmm...." he mumbled, sniffing the ground, then the air, and back to the ground again. Finally he managed to center in on a deep cave loacated in the side of a rocky crevice. "Ah HAH!" With an excited yelp he bounded up to the entrance, the scent growing stronger with each leap. "Faaayaaa~!" he cried out, bounding inside. "I found yo--WOAH!" His feet lost the grip of the cave floor as he slipped on some stray rocks, and he felt himself tripping over his feet, rolling down further into the passage...until he fell through a dark hole, and landed hard onto the stone below. "...Oww..." he whined, standing himself up on shaky legs. He hadn't been expecting a drop-off like that...
"Blaze! Blaze, help! Help, I fell--!....through..." His nose drifted upwards as he once again smelled that sweet scent. He turned and saw Faya behind him. "...Ah! I found you!" he said happily, wagging his tail. "...W-wow...that hit must've done something to my head...I feel dizzy..." he thought dazedly. He probably wouldn't guess that it was merely the fact he was closer to Faya that was making his head spin.

Faya nearly jumped out of her fur at the sound of a familiar voice calling her name. Turning around, she relazed as she recognized Koribi's excited words. How could she forget them when his voice was like a repeating song in her mind? She cringed as she heard a yelp and then the crash of fur on rock. He had most likely fallen through. She raced back, which wasn't very far, and skidded to a halt when she spotted the growlithe. She couldn't help but allow a smile to trace her muzzle. He really was cute when he was trying to help.
"Silly furball, are you alright?"
She called, walking over to him and sniffing his pelt carefully. He seemed alright, yet a tingling sensation went through her body as she closed the distance between them.

Koribi shot her a lopsided grin, his tongue poking out. "Oh yeah, I'm totally fine," he said, shaking it off like it was nothing. "You know...just your average every day fall down a giant hole, no biggie." He did, however, squeak a bit when she began to sniff him...she was so...so close...
"U-u-u-um, m-maybe we s-should t-try to call B-Blaze, or s-something," he stuttered nervously. "Y-you know, to g-get us out...c-cause...w-we might be s-stuck..." He started to feel dizzy again...what WAS this?

Faya held back a giggle. So he fell down just about every day, huh? She smiled and felt relieved that he was alright. Strangely, she realized she had been more worried about him then she would have for her sister. Blinking, she decided it must have been the fact that she couldn't imagine his grin fading away and being replaced by pain. He was so lighthearted and warm that she couldn't help but smile just from being near him.
I wonder if I should tell him there's an exit right there... Or maybe I should save him the embarassment, after all, he did just fall through a giant hole.
She smiled and licked him over the ears. She's play along for now, anyway, if Blaze couldn't find another route out then she could pretend to suddenly spot the ledge on the wall.
"Right. Good idea. Let's see if we can find a higher place to call him so it'll be easier for him to hear us."
She suggested, shrugging off the butterfrees that were flying in her stomache. Why was it she always got this feeling around him?

"Yeah! Hehe, good idea!" Koribi's tail wagged excitedly. He'd find the exit, of course he would! And then...and then Faya would be so impressed that...he felt his face flush just thinking about it. He wanted to impress Faya, make her happy...if only he just knew why!
Either way, his nose went down to the cave floor, sniffing along the soot. It was pleasantly warm in the cave...it was making him sleepy, really. But he wouldn't stop searching for a way out, not when Faya was depending on him. Hopefully Blaze was outside too, trying to find a different way out.
Carefully, he began to hop across the stone ledges, trying to find higher ground. The stones were hot underneath his feet, some burning the pads on his paws slightly. He winced, but he kept that hidden from Faya. "Just wait, I'll get us out of here! You can count on me!" he beamed. "...A-and Faya..." ...At this, he looked down, feeling the heat flush on his face again. His lips began to move without really thinking about it first. "...The glow from the lava nearby...makes your fur light up real' pretty...." His eyes then widened as his forepaws went to his mouth. Unfortunately for him he had forgotten he was standing on a relatively high ledge, and as soon as he brought his paws up he lost balance, tumbling back down to the gave floor and landing in front of Faya with a flop. It didn't hurt very much...but it was definitely embarrassing.

Faya felt her fur grow redder still and she blushed, about to speak when suddenly the growlithe tumbled off the ledge. Her eyes widened in shock and she dashed over to him.
"Koribi! Are you alright? This is my fault, really! Here, let me help you."
Voice filled with anxiety for her friend, she mentally berated herself.
I should have just shown him the exit, otherwise he wouldn't have gotten hurt! Stupid, stupid, stupid me.
She thought bitterly. Nudging him slightly, she felt that tingle up her spine once more and she hoped he hadn't realized. The last thing she wanted was for him to be worrying about her.

"N-no, I'm fine," he mumbled, turning his reddened face to the ground in embarrassment. He felt terribly awkward inside, and he still couldn't figure out why, or what had made him say that to her. It was so strange, he couldn't even think straight anymore! He put his front paws over his head in an attempt to hide the blush more.
"I-It wasn't your fault," came a muffled reply to her frantic questioning. "I slipped was all, j-just slipped...c-could've happened to anyone..." He had never felt this way in his entire life. Embarrassed beyond belief, worried about how she probably saw him as nothing more than a stupid clutz...a strange warmth flowing through him at her touch...
"Ugh! What is going on with my head today?!" He thought miserably, bonking his head against the cave floor.

Faya lay down next to him, unsure of what to say.
"It's ok, Koribi. You can't blame yourself. Everyone falls down sometimes. I fall down a lot, practically every day."
She said, smiling at him. Her ears pricked slightly as she wondered if Blaze was on his way yet. She hoped he would come soon, her stomache was starting to rumble as she noticed that she hadn't had anything to eat that day.
"Hey, Koribi. Do you want to explore the tunnels with me? The air got fresher that way, so it might be an escape route."
She siad, licking his shoulder encouragingly. Once more, that dizzy feeling overwhelmed her and she blinked, struggling to keep her balance. She felt frustration and bewilderment as to how this kept happening, and always when she was near Koribi.

Following Koribi in search of Faya, Blaze was impressed by his sense of smell. No wonder he found me so fast. I'll have to better next time. When Koribi found a deep cave in the side of a rocky crevice, he bounded inside and Blaze tried to follow but found it to be too tight a squeeze. Pawing at the ground in dismay, he waited at the entrance. It's the worst to miss out on an adventure when you're too big....
Blaze became a little nervous when minutes passed without either Koribi or Faya appearing. "Guys, are you ok?" No answer. Digging in the ash, he tried to make a hole big enough for him to get through, but soon hit rock. "Looks like I'll have to find another way," he groaned. He couldn't believed that he'd already lost two of his new friends on the day that he met them. If I was a Rapidash, I'd be able to force my way in no problem. He rubbed his forehead with his front leg as if a horn might sprout out at any moment. Sighing, he continued his search.
Soon after, he came across a slab of rock with several long cracks in it. Looking through them, he could see an ash covered floor. I bet I could knock a hole in this! He reared up on his back legs and pounded the rock with his hard hooves. No good. After doing this many time, he stopped, seeing no visible progress.
Just as he was about to move on, the rock gave way under his front hooves, and he tumbled into the hole headfirst! Despite the ash, he landed hard, knocking the wind out of him. Covered with ash from head to hoof, he tried to shake it off but most of it stayed on him, making him look kind of like a fiery ghost.
"Well, at least I made it inside," he wheezed, coughing a bit on the ash. "Time for an adventure!" He took off at a gallop to search for his friends.

Koribi nodded and peeked an eye out from under his paws, red at her lick. Whenever she was even close to him, he felt warm inside...this was almost too much for him to handle, with all of the confused feelings jumbling up inside of him.
"A-alright...let's try over there..." he said shyly, picking himself up and sniffing around the area. Carefully he began to make his way down a darker path, giving off a few embers every so often for light, and turning around to make sure that Faya was following him and managing her way down the dark corridor. Suddenly, his nose caught a whiff of something.
"...Faya...do you smell Blaze?" he asked, blinking in confusion. He had left Blaze outside...how was it he was smelling the ponyta when they had gone further in, rather than out?

Faya flicked her ears, feeling slightly better now that Koribi was back on his paws. It was lucky to have a friend who's fur glowed in the dark. Padding after him, she sniffed the heavy air at the growlithe's words. Indeed, there was the faint scent of flames and another pokemon. She wondered if perhaps Blaze had followed them into the hole. Blinking, she once again remembered that the hole would've been far too small to fit a ponyta, so he must have found another way in. That could mean he could be in a completely different passage.
"He's too big to have fit through the entrance we came through, so he must have gone in another way. Most likely the tunnel connects to where he is though, otherwise we wouldn't smell him."
She said, realizing that their friend must be closeby.

Koribi glanced back at her with a nod. "Yeah, but we should be careful when we're running around here. We've already fallen through our fair share of holes..." He took one step at a time, sniffing eagerly through the deep passageways. The smell of embers made its way through his nose. "Ah, that could be him..." he thought, crawling through a smaller passage. "Blaaaze, is that yoooou--? WAH!" He slid down a slick ravine, tumbling towards an obsidian floor. He fell with a flop, inwardly cursing himself. Three times! Three times today he had slipped and fallen, and in front of Faya too! He growled and stood up, shaking the fall off and praying she hadn't squeezed through the gap and saw...He turned slightly, and gasped. The sight was beautiful. It hadn't been Blaze he had smelled, but rather a lake of glowing lava, surrounded by glittering obsidian walls. tunnels were around the perimeter of the cavern, but to get to them the two would have to rock-hop across the lake. Still...the challenge was in the back of his mind as he gazed at the beauty of the spot.
"...Wow..."

As Blaze trotted through the tunnel, he saw a small, slug-like pokemon sliding across the ground ahead of him. The red pokemon seemed to even be made of magma and gave off a surprising amount of heat.
"Hey, wait up! I want to ask you something!" Picking up speed, he caught up to the Slugma seconds later. Although it didn't stop moving, its head turned in his direction, and Blaze shivered a bit when he saw it's large, staring, yellow eyes. Before he could say another word, however, the pokemon started laughing and slipped into a nearby pool of lava, disappearing out of sight.
"I don't look that funny, and you were supposed to answer my question!" he said angrily, stomping his hoof. When the strange pokemon didn't reappear, he sighed and continued walking down the tunnel.

Luckily for Koribi, Faya had stopped for a moment when she heard a faint voice. Immediately, she recognized it as Blaze, but he must be talking to anothe pokemon. Hurrying after Koribi, she prayed that there wouldn't be another fight. Suddenly, she skidded to a halt at the gap Koribi had fell through, just in time to break her fall and skid down, her claws gripping the slope. She opened her mouth to tell Koribi something when she suddenly saw the sight before them. It was beautiful! A pond of lava seemed to curl in a trench in the ground, radiating warmth. It bubbled and flowed smoothly, like a river of liquid fire.
"Koribi, where does it lead?"
She whispered in awe, stepping forward slightly. She knew that lava could be dangerous even for fire pokemon, so she kept her distance while still admiring the molten river.

"I dunno...but it's real pretty..." His tail began to wag as he stepped closer to the lava pit, examining it. "...It's nice and warm!" he said happily, looking back towards Faya with a grin, tongue lolling out. "Come here and you'll see! Ahhh...this would be the best place for a nap..." He set himself down next to the river with a content, lazy expression. It had been quite a day so far, and the warmth was filling him up with a nice, cozy softness. "Faya, you have got to sit down over here..." He turned his head back towards her. The light from the river illuminated her so prettily...oh, how he hoped she would come closer...

After walking for what seemed like forever, Blaze came to literally a lake of lava. "Wow," he murmured. "That's awesome." He wished that Koribi and Faya were with him since adventures were always more fun when friends were around. Almost deciding to turn around, he noticed various rocks sticking up out of the lava throughout the whole lake. "Hey, I don't have to turn around. I can rock-hop across." Although there were tunnels all around, he decided to go straight across first.
He'd only gotten to the second rock when he heard a creaking sound behind him. The cave ceiling, weakened by the cave-in that had brought Blaze down to the tunnels, shook as cracks appeared all over it.
"Uh-oh. This could turn out nasty." Before he could even move, the entire rock face over the tunnel he'd just come through fell down into the lake, creating a huge wave of lava. Giving off the loudest, most terrified whinny he'd even done, he raced across the lake of lava, the wave just behind him.
Noticing two Pokemon on the bank before him, he yelled frantically, "Watch out! Move it!" He gasped when he saw that between him and the bank was a larger than normal gap between the rocks. Closing his eyes, he leaped as far as he could, hoping that he would make it. Could this be the end?

Koribi's eyes, which had begun to close in slumber, immediately shot open as the lava wave shot towards them. Blaze was hopping across as fast as he could, but...where to go once he was on the rock cropping he and Faya were standing on? The wave wouldn't stop for them...Quickly he turned, examining the area. He had had to do this once before, a quick escape...he shuddered at the memories but only let them haunt him for a second. He didn't have the time to think.
Luckily, he noticed something. It was large enough for the three to fit in together...he didn't know if it would work...but he had to try. "Blaze!" he shouted over the crashing of the lava against the stone. "Get to that small crevice to the right!" Without waiting to make sure he understood, he raced towards Faya and nudged her towards the crevice urgently. They didn't have much time...luckily, she managed to sprint on ahead, understanding his instructions. He followed behind, taking only one or two glances at the lava rushing at them...
Once Blaze had made it, Koribi scooted towards the front. The last time, he hadn't done something so large...and he was qorried that his power wouldn't be enough...no, it had to be. Even if it wasn't, Blaze and Faya might catch on to help. He squared his shoulders, took a deep breath as the lava raged forwards...and blasted the largest stream of fire he could from his mouth, spreading the lava away from the crevice with the force. He would have to keep it up until it cooled to a stone and settled around him. But after the initial wave's force hitting his fire blast...already it was hard to hold it off. His eyes narrowed, glinting in determination...he WOULD save his friends...

Faya had settled down beside Koribi, her shoulders relaxing, when suddenly she spotted Blaze, bounding across the rock outcrops, precariously close to the river of fire. She opened her mouth to call to him, but suddenly Koribi was urging her away. Turning her head, she was just in time to spot the wave of magma heading for them. Without further encouragement, she braced herself and then leaped over, landing on the crevice, her paws skidding momentarily as she caught herself.
Turning around, she noticed that Blaze was already heading towards where she was. Then her heart stopped as she realized Koribi wasn't coming with them. The determination in his eyes as he faced the raging lava was the same look that she had seen in her sister's eyes when they faught off the poochyena. She shuddered. She couldn't leave him there, but if she tried jumping back, she might distract him or accidentally push him in, which was not an option. Angling herself sideways, she teetered on the brink of the crevice, forcing herself not to look down. Now, she was slightly facing the magma, and with a deep breath, she opened her jaws and, with all her strength, gave way to the strongest flame thrower she could manage. But, even with two fire blasts holding back the magma, the exertion was painful, and her eyes watered from the burning light.

Koribi blinked and let his focus wander a bit behind him, glancing towards the crevice to see who had decided to help...his eyes widened, and as best he could with the flamethrower still jetting from his mouth, he shook his head quickly.
"Faya!" he thought, his eyes pleading with her. "Faya, run! Get out of here! I don't want you ro Blaze getting hurt, I can handle this, go!" To prove his point, he upped the power of his fire as much as he could, holding the lava back a little more than he had been...It put such a strain on him that he wasn't sure how long he himself would last...but if they could get out it would be okay, he realized that now...if they were hurt...he'd never forgive himself.
"Please, Faya! Go back!"
