Warning: kinda longish.
Character's name: Swiftpaw Graylet is the name he's adopted as the name he gives to others; due to what superstitious beliefs he has, he won't tell just anybody his real name.
Species: Buizel
Age: Roughly 2 1/2 - 3 years old
Sex: Male
Description: A red-eyed buizel with silvery fur in place of the normal brown/orange; the cream fur on him is slightly lighter than on a normal buizel. The ring around his neck and the fins on his arms aren't any different in color from that of most others of his species. A bit thin compared to other buizel.
Around his neck is a blue/blue-violet-splotched cockle shell, hung on a string of wurmple silk - a gift from his mother, given to him as a good-luck charm.
Personality: Blunt, and friendly enough, unless you happen to be a member of certain species (namely vaporeon and crawdaunt). As Swiftpaw's heard nothing but horrors about vaporeon and what they've done to the rest of his family, he has no inclination to trust any he finds; likewise with crawdaunt, as he's not forgotten what happened when he was young. He also tends to be a bit skittish around pokemon of types that oppose his. He's mostly a down-to-earth pokemon, though there are some spiritual things that'll spook him.*
While he tries to be serious at times, since he thinks that laughing and joking aren't things he should be doing, he often fails at that, lapsing into the aforementioned behaviors when he's around pokemon he knows.
*Aside from his normal wariness of electric and grass types, he's also nervous about psychic and ghost types. Psychic types in general tend to scare him, or at least make him extremely and
visibly nervous as he's afraid that they'll pry into his mind and see the things he tries to hide from others, while Ghost types will often make him quiver in his fur due to their erratic nature.
History: Swiftpaw comes from a nearly-extinct buizel line known best for their silvery fur - among his known relatives, only himself and his grandfather have that color of fur. The rest of the known line has been wiped out due to either various members being killed off in conflicts with rival pokemon (most especially the rival groups of vaporeon that seemed to hate them), because of humans poaching them for their fur, or because of genetic dilution stemming from breeding with other bloodlines. If there are others like Swiftpaw's line, then they are currently unknown to his family.
Swiftpaw lost his father at a young age, due to a crawdaunt that caught Swiftpaw and his siblings off-guard as they were wading near the edge of a river. Not just his father that day, but one of his younger siblings was lost as well, as she was the unfortunate victim that fell prey to the crawdaunt before Swiftpaw or the others knew what was going on. Had his father been at his full strength, Swiftpaw would have lost only one family member that day; however, his father was already weakened at that time due to an illness that he'd caught somewhere. While his father managed to kill the crawdaunt before it could harm Swiftpaw or any of the other pups, the thrashing of the crawdaunt's legs in its death throes managed to trap his father in its grip, and as he was too weak to properly escape he was pulled down into the river where he drowned. Swiftpaw still has flashbacks from time to time of that event, though in his mind the crawdaunt's turned from being an actual crawdaunt into a demonic creature of sorts. To this
day he has both a hatred and a fear of crawdaunt - while the mere sight of them ignites an unreasonable desire to kill them, he is also stricken with fear upon seeing them. He does like corphish as one of his favorite foods, however, and as he considers eating them to be picking off potential crawdaunts he'll gladly eat as many as he can.
Upon reaching the point where he was starting to no longer be considered a pup, he received a present from his grandfather - the family's heirloom, a mythical pendant by the name of the "River's Heart" that was supposed to grant the user extra power (OOC NOTE: not really - it's not quite what they think it is. The item is actually just a Mystic Water that one of Swiftpaw's ancestors got from a trainer before managing to obtain freedom, and which has been passed down through the family for a good many years now; assuming that item could work the same as in the GBA games, it would strengthen their existing water powers but do squat for anything else. If not, then any "heightened powers" are actually just a placebo effect based on any faith in the supposed power of the pendant). He was told to protect it, and make sure that nothing came of it - for who knew what it could do in the hands of any of their clan's mortal enemies? Swiftpaw gladly took it and said he would protect it always.
Then THAT day came.
He still isn't entirely sure what happened - he'd been swimming somewhere, on the lookout for a vaporeon that had been reported to be in the area (and that he wanted to chase away, as something like that would only cause trouble for him later on, he thought), when he was suddenly hit by an attack that caused him immense pain, to thrash around and nearly drown himself. Before losing consciousness completely, he was dragged to the shore and the pendant taken from around his neck - with the last glimpse he saw being of a strange, light purple pokemon.
He survived - of course - with surprisingly minimal physical injuries but with his pride totally shattered. Upon telling others of what had happened, he was informed that the creature he saw was most likely an espeon, a psychic cousin of the loathed vaporeons. Even though the thought of chasing after such a pokemon to get back his pendant made him nervous, he ended up trying so anyways - after all, the pendant was his responsibility, and since he was the one to lose it he's now the one to try to find it.
So far he's had no luck with finding it, and his travels have brought him to this land...what he'll find here remains to be seen.
