'It began with a ripple. Now there is no beginning, and no end.'
In myths and stories, the magerath were said to be the first inhabitants of Earth, a race who occupied it long before humans. They built Gateways, transports from their world to Earth, in areas of strong spiritual energy, 'leylines.' As the humans came to exist, the magerath blended into society. In later centuries the humans encountered the magerath, in Victorian times and possibly earlier. As it can be assumed their reaction was nothing short of human-like and resulted in witch-burnings, exorcisms, and executions.
The half-bloods, those of human and mageran blood, were also driven out. Some fled to their home planet via the remaining Gates. Some lived on Earth, remained and melded into society. As the knowledge of their presence faded, and the leaders of the killings and revolts ceased their crusades, the presence of the magerath was all but forgotten, save in legends and myths.
Centuries later, after many technological advancements and losses, humanity began to colonize space, terraform planets they deemed suitable for their growing population. This movement and development of Earthlings would come to be known as the Great Migration. Just when humanity had seen a bit of peace, a bit of respite, thirty years later they made contact with a familiar race: the magerath, prideful and exotic people of the planet Xel Kyan.
The Earthlings saw this as an opportunity: a chance to recreate themselves. To redeem their Earth from the dust ball it had become and reverse their mistakes. The magerath had appeared from their home to ease the problems of half-bloods, impurity of race, after learning of their ancestors' settlings on Earth in the form of nothing short of a crusade.
Flash forward to the present day, 2385: The horizons have expanded. Those that live scratch out an existence however they can, rich, poor, middle-classed. But most of all-- they live.
