They were soon back at Alcatraz's Alcove. Coralyn yawned as night approached. "I wanna go back there soon," the zigzagoon/zangoose kit mewed.
"You want to hunt?" asked Sassano, looking from Jarreth to Cirenze. He knew his own sister didn't hunt. A veggie, he liked to call her.
"Sure," said Jarreth, itching for a good meal. "But lets not get caught..again. By..them."
"Yes take care of yourselves," said Lelaka, eyeing them. After Alca's last visit to the Fortress to rescue the kits she didn't want it to happen again.

" Yes...don't go too far from here," said Alcatraz. " I'll keep in touch with the area to make sure I can tell when you're in trouble but the best thing I advise is just not to get in any."
" I'll go too!" said Cirenze.

"Awesome," said Jarreth, smiling at his pink friend. "Let's go then." He trotted off. He was starting to want to figure who was dominant--him or Sassano. He was older and bigger, but the poochyena mix had some omph to him.
"Yeah all three of us can take down something good!" Sassano trotted off after the growlithe/eevee pup, ready for a good hunt. He looked back at Alca. "Yeah thanks."

Alcatraz smiled sheepishly. " It's no problem." While Cirenze bounded off to join them, the young aruseus decided to head out and check out the immediate area. " Lelaka, want to have a flight around while they're out hunting?" He couldn't just sit at home, he liked to travel and see new things.

"Yeah sounds good," said Lelaka. "Can I ride on your back? Like in the old days?" The emurit grinned at Alca and hovered over him, knowing he'd say yes to her question.
"Can I come?" asked Coralyn. She didn't want to stay at the alcove all alone.

Jarreth led the two other kits away from the alcove, but not too far away. He kept slowing a bit to scent the air, always alert for a good meal. So far, nothing.
"Smell anything?" asked Sassano, wondering if Cirenze had got whiff of something good.

" Sure you can!" said Alcatraz, grinning. " And you can too Coralyn, just hang on, to my wheel or something back there." He would use his powers to help keep her secure on his back. He knelt down to let her climb on, since he could be difficult for one so small to climb up onto.

Coralyn scrambled up onto Alcatraz's larger back with ease. She positioned herself behind Lelaka with Alca's great wheel at her back. "I'm ready!" she called, letting Alca know he could take off now.

"Not a surprise," muttered Jarreth. He continued to scent the air until he finally smelled some kind of snake. "All I can get is snake..." he grunted darkly.

Alcatraz made sure they were both secure, then he rocketed up through a hole in the canopy. Some leaves whipped his face as he zoomed up and out over the forest. Ahh, the freedom of flight! His hooves, wheel and other accents became a light, airy sky blue as he took on one of his favourite elements, Flying.

Lelaka relaxed as Alca took off. She remembered flying on Alca's parents so long ago. She stretched her arms and looked back at Coralyn. "Having fun, girlie?"
"Yeah!" said Coralyn, stretching her paws in the air. "This is awesome!"

"Damn I hope not." Sassano took a nervous glance at the bushes. "What do you think, Jarreth?" He really didn't know what to think.
"I smell rat now. Yep. A snake's luring us to something dead already prolly," replied Jarreth. His dad had taught him all about snakes. They were trouble. "This might be a bad hunt..."

Alcatraz flew speedily out towards other plaecs in Erymire. He had never really gotten to explore the lands around him, and would take the chance to do so now. He didn't really care if others could easily look up and see him, that was just the way it was.

The ekans attempted to sneak up on the kits. It fancied getting one of them for lunch.

Coralyn watched as the world rushed under them. This was cooler than anything she'd ever done. Their short flight to the berry trees had been nothing compared to this! She wagged her tail and giggled a little when it hit Alca's wheel.

Jarreth scented the air once more. The scent of dead meat was stronger now and the scent of ekans was stronger as well. He glanced around behind them but didn't see the snake in the bushes.

Alcatraz flew out over the plains east of the forest. He squinted in the wind created by high flying speed. {cont'd somewhere else?}

ic: Jarreth's nostril's flared wildly. Did not see but smelled. That wasn't unusal. As long as the smell was there, there'd be trouble.

Sassano felt his fir starting to prickle a little. He heard the tension in Cirenze's voice. The pup looked at the bushes. They all suddenly seemed darker and meaner than they had before. He shivered and looked at Jarreth. He was fine with the older pup being dominant if it meant them not getting eaten.
Jarreth was good at hiding his emotions. "In the bushes," he said, not liking the silence. "We'll either find and kill it or escape."

The ekans sprang for Cirenze, the nearer pokemon, in a split instant. Its body coiled quickly around her and held her tightly. Cirenze screamed and struggled to escape as the ekans prepared to bring down its fangs for a deadly bite.

Jarreth's growl rumbled with anger and the bigger male leapt on the ekans, grabbing it with his teeth and trying to pull it off his friend.
Not wanting to just stand there, Sassano jumped in too. The kit grabbed the ekans' tail and gave it a yank.

Cirenze felt the ekans squeeze her even tighter. Her whole body screamed pain and she felt like her eyeballs would pop out.
The ekans found itself under attack now and struck out at Jarreth who had buried his teeth into its scales.

Jarreth gave a hard pull at the ekans scaley body. Being a mix of growlithe, he pushed some ember into the bite hoping it'd have more effect.

The ekans hissed loudly as its neck was burnt badly. It released Cirenze; the kit flopped onto the ground. Now it faced Jarreth and struck out at him.

Jarreth let go of the ekan's neck and blew some flames into its face that faced him now. He growled angerly, hoping the flames would kill it. He saw Sassano was bting the ekans' tail so that the snake couldn't escape.

The ekans saw it had missed in its strike, and also that it wasn't going to win any prey here. It quickly turned and slithered away, glad to be alive.

Cirenze felt pain all through her. She got painfully to her feet, it hurt to breathe. " I....my whole...chest hurts, my body hurts..."
She coughed up blood.

Sassano cringed as Cirenze began to hack up blood. He didn't know what to do. The blood smelled horrible and unappealing, mainly because she was a carnivore. He froze with fear and shot a look at Jarreth.
"Sassano," said Jarreth. "Go back and find Alcatraz." He looked at Cirenze. "Try not to cough up too much.." He knew loosing all that blood had to hurt and had to be bad. But would holding it back make it better?

Cirenze found it hard to breathe through her punctured lungs, which had been poked through by broken ribs. She lay there in extreme pain.

It took Sassano a crazy moment to move. His limbs were locked and frozen, but the urgency in Jarreth's voice and Cirenze's pained look made him unfreeze. "ok," he whispered and then ran off stiffly. "Alcatraz!" he yelled. No answer. "ALCATRAZ!" He yelled as loudly as he could. Still no answer. They hadn't good that far from Alca's alcove. "Alcatraz?" It came out as a whimper. He'd thought of himself as tough, but tears streamed down his eyes. "Alca!"
Jarreth looked at Cirenze. He had no idea what to do. Berries? He gave her a lick. "I'm going to get you some berries," he said to no one in particular. It wasn't directed at her. He was just voicing his thoughts. He licked her face once more and then hurried over to a nearby bush full of berries.

Alcatraz appeared right next to them, and when he saw Cirenze he knew what he had to do. " Jarreth...what happened? There was a snake wasn't there?"
Cirenze looked up at Alcatraz who was about to save her for a second time. She really wished she wouldn't keep getting into trouble and needing gods to save her.
Alcatraz began to concentrate his energy on healing Cirenze. An aura gently shone round them both. Steadily her body began to repair.

"Yeah it was a snake," muttered Jarreth, abanoning his frenzy to find berries. He looked from lelaka to Alca, wondering how they had got here so quickly.
"Where's Sassy?" asked Coralyn, jumping off of Alcatraz's back. She looked around frantically.
At that moment, Sassano heard Alca's voice and trotted back to the group. He was panting hard and his eyes were still wide with fear. But he saw Alcatraz was working his magic and saw that lelaka and Coralyn were back as well. He tried to calm down.

The aura faded and Cirenze sat up. She felt completely healed. Did this mean that as long as she didn't die immediately from injuries, she would be okay, because Alca could keep healing her?
That probably wouldn't be a good way to live her life.
" I'm just glad I got back in time," said Alcatraz, who was worrying now that the instant he left the kits, something deadly would strike. It seemed like that.
