The cotton-candy-coloured hybrid kit stalked the trail of a rattata. Cirenze found it hard to concentrate on her prey, just because of the whole thing with Alcatraz that had happened. Her life had been spared. But confusion crossed her pink face, which had red-pink markings, a star on her forehead, under her bangs, and two furret-like stripes on either cheek. Why her? She wasn't really an important pokemon in any way, she thought. She was only a hybrid, the child of a ninetales-mightyena and an absol with some fox in him. A mongrel pokemon, she was. But a lot of pokemon in Erymire were.
She tracked the rattata trail to its source and made a pounce through the bushes. Her pink-red paws missed. She gave a snarl of frustration as the rat pokemon disappeared into its hole.

"Damn. You lost me my daily meal."
Standing there was another odd hybrid. He rolled his orange eyes and flicked his bushy tan tail with annoyance. His father had been an arcanine-flareon and his mother an arcanine only. He himself was a tad bit larger than an evee with a roughly built body. His color patterns were like those of an evee and his tan fur jutted out over his pale orange striped fur underneathe. Like the girl in front of him, he was an oddball. Where a normal evee had dark brown he had a golden-tan. The other parts of his body were pale orange stripped with white. His fur was rough everywhere and the tan fur jutted out rudely over the downey striped fur. His black nose quivered as he sniffed the air.
"Nope," he growled. "Nothing else. Girl now I gotta go hungry till tomorow." He laughed and lifted a paw and gave it a lick. He waited for her to reply, an annoying smile hovering on his face.

" I'm sorry," said Cirenze. " i didn't know this was your territory. I'm new here." She flicked her three tails. " Well, I could try to make it up to you by helping you catch another one?"
She really hoped he wouldn't stay mad at her. She was new in the area and she needed more friends than just, well, the aruseus.

"New you say?" He chuckled. "All right let's go. I haven't hunted with someone else since I left home. Not to preds around here..usually quite a bit of kill...seems to have moved on though." He frowned and added, "I'm Jarreth. Who might you be?"

" I'm Cirenze." She smiled a little at him, he looked like an eevee and a growlithe combined, and she liked that, she could identify with it because of her obviously mixed lineage. She was so mixed that she wasn't even sure what she should be called, so she was just Cirenze the hunter pokemon.
~A lousy hunter, though,~ she mused to herself.

"Well, let's go," said Jarreth, trotting off through the undergrowth. "After the noise you made pouncing on that rat there won't be any prey around for quite a bit. We might as well just move out of the lil buggers' hearing distance and then we'll be successful."
He'd been taught by his father about hunting. His father had more than killing skills. He had logic about where to go to hunt and when to move. It had always amazed Jarreth and he'd learned well. After scaring prey away you had to move out of anything around its hearing range so that things wouldn't know you were there.

Cirenze felt a little embarrassed, but she didn't blame him for being angry. At least he ws willing to hunt with her, she thought.
A shadow watched the two kits hunt. They might be useful as trainees, thought the mystery pokemon...

Jarreth set a fast pace. He didn't even stop to think his new friend might not like traveling so quickly. He slowed down as they entered what he assumened was a better place for hunting. He dropped his jaw a bit, tasting the air.
"Excellent," he muttered. The smell of pichu was on the air.

Cirenze could barely keep up with him. She tried not to step awkwardly and make too much noise. Already it was easy to see he was the better hunter of the two of them. He was older and stronger.
The large, swift pokemon moved through the shadows trailing them, his dark fur blending with the shade. He knew how to keep himself hidden.

Jarreth glanced back at Cirenze. "You didn't have to come, you know. I prefer company, but if I'm too much for you.." He smirked at her. He could tell she was tired. He could here her breathing. "Don't worry, your breathing's not -that- loud. They prey won't hear it."

Cirenze glared at him. " I can keep up with you. In fact I can probably go at least as fast as you." She tried to slow her breathing to quiet it down, but ended up feeling a little light-headed.

Jarreth chuckled. "If you say so," he merely said. He then flicked his tail in front of her mouth, letting her know that he was ready to move in on the prey. He slipped through the brush quickly and lightly, barely knocking the leaves. He wormened his thick body around and soon could see two pichu playing in the dirt. A smile flicked onto his orange face.

Cirenze got a mouth full of fluffy tail. She scowled. ~That was rude,~ she thought, but was afraid to say so to his face. He was a lot stronger than she was. If he wanted to, he could kill her and eat her himself. She slipped through after him and spotted the pair of pichus.

Jarreth flick his tail towards the right one. He was going for that one and she could do whatever she pleased. Well, anything except scare his kill away. He was soon on top of the pichu after a powerful spring. He got it under him and gave it a quick bite. Death. Simple and pretty.

Cirenze copied him and sprang after the pichu. As her front paws connected with the electric creature, a painful sting ran through her body. She screamed as it took hold of her muscles. Determined not to give up, she bit into the pichu's neck.

Jarreth heard her scream but ignored it. It didn't matter anyway, he'd got the element of surprised being a few miliseconds earlier than her. So, technically, if it weren't for him she wouldn't have been sizzled. "A lil shock to the system, eh?" he said as he began to eat the pichu.

Cirenze's fur was standing all on end as she let the pichu fall from her jaws. " It wasn't--it wasn't much." Her face felt like it was still being electrified. All her muscles were still twitching.

Jarreth said nothing and went to work chowing down on his own kill. He didn't want to make her any more uncomfortable then she already was...then she'd leave him. That'd be no fun.

Cirenze noticed that her pichu was smaller than Jarreth's, but she was smaller herself than Jarreth was, so it worked out. She tore into her kill and wolfed bites down. She had been a lot hungrier than she'd thought.
The growlithe with the thick black stripes pondered what to do. He couldn't force them into joining his little pack, but then what would be the point in that? He strode closer and cleared his throat to get their attention.
Cirenze's head snapped up. She had a scrap of meat in her mouth. She gasped, then waited to see what he would do. He might be here to steal their kills...
" Don't mind me," said the growlithe. " I'm just passing through."

"Good, keep on passing," growled Jarreth, snapping to attention. "But please, I have boundaries. Intruders are not welcomend with open arms. However small I may be, this is my territory. So bug off unless you want business." He didn't care that the growlithe was bigger than him. He could put up a good fight if he had to. And he couldn't let other Pokemon scare him. This had been his territory for almost a moon now and he wasn't about to give it up. It was small too, since he was small. Not that hard to avoid.

" I see, and where is your pack?" said the growlithe. He looked at Cirenze. " This your pack?"
" I'm part of his pack," said Cirenze. " And we've got a lot more dogs, too, from where we came."

"We're loners." Jarreth's voice was cold. "My kind lives better alone." It was particially true...he'd known a lot of eevee's and eevee evo's that had lived alone, but growlithes more commonly lived in packs. He shot a glare at Cirenze. ~Let me do the talking,~ he thought darkly

Cirenze glared back at Jarreth. Here she'd been trying to help him and he had to object. ~Fine,~ she thought, ~fend him off yourself.~
The growlithe chuckled. " So lemme guess, you don't really have anyone on yourside should I decide that this nice territory here is...say, mine not yours."
" Well, why can't we share?" Cirenze quickly tried to make the peace. She didn't want a fight.

"This place has been mine for over a moon now," growled Jarreth. "And I'll fight you." He knew he was probably just humoring the older and bigger pokemon, but he didn't care. This was his place and he wasn't going to give it up. "I'll consider letting you stay under one condition. I mean, staying with no fight." He knew that was what Cirenze wanted.

" I see," said the growlithe. The truth was, he was alone. He was bound to return to the Horde with either a prisoner or a recruit, but this Jarreth would probably make neither. He was too strong for him to overpower and determined to remain here. " Well I guess we could do that."
Cirenze was just glad he hadn't tried to steal her kill. She had a hard enough time making them. She caught the growlithe's eye and didn't like the way he looked at her.

"The condition is we split this territory. You leave us alone; we leave you alone. Were not getting together. I'm a loner and that's that." Jarreth hoped the growlithe would leave, he didn't want competion. But truth told, the territorry he'd marked out for himself was much too big for one dog his size. In the winter it was a good size, but in the plentiful spring there was no need for that much territory for two small preds.

" Split? To tell you the truth I come from a much bigger territory than this. But, well, if you insist." And the growlithe padded away through the forest, saying, " We will meet again, loner."
Cirenze watched him go. " Hmmph."

Jarreth growled at the growlithe, waiting until he was properly gone to stop. He looked at Cirenze. "I don't trust him. Time for me--and you if you like--to move on." He wasn't sure that Cirenze would want his company any longer. If she did, though, she was welcome to come. But he for sure was moving on. He didn't want to deal with this shit. There was plenty of territory in the rainforest anyway.

" Well, I want to head back to my other friends," said Cirenze, a little shy of telling him she was friends with an aruseus. " You can come if you want."

"Ok," said Jarreth. "But when we get back that ass will have taken this territory. So...who's your friend?" He padded along next to her, wondering what kinds of friends she had. He'd thought she'd been alone.
